TL;DR: Holographic storage of Fourier transformed image in PCW and its application to optical neural network, two-dimensional array of PCW as a storage device, phase conjugate mirror using PCW, and structural consideration ofPCW for efficient 2-WM are investigated.
Abstract: Novel applications of photorefractive effect to optical signal processing are proposed and demonstrated. The applications of two-wave mixing (2-WM) in a bulk photorefractive crystal include logic operations and cross connect. Photorefractive crystal waveguide (PCW) is another primary concern. Holographic storage of Fourier transformed image in PCW and its application to optical neural network, two-dimensional array of PCW as a storage device, phase conjugate mirror using PCW, and structural consideration of PCW for efficient 2-WM are investigated. In the experiments, LiNbO 3 and BaTiO 3 waveguides are used. BaTiO 3 waveguide will be tested here for the first time. In a long-term prospect, all these technologies will eventually find important roles in optical signal processing.

TL;DR: In this paper, a first/second complex reference beam and a modulated signal beam converge on a storing location to generate a sequence of first and second interference patterns to be sequentially stored on a holographic medium.
Abstract: In a storing mode of an apparatus for storing and retrieving a sequence of digital page data, a first/second complex reference beam and a modulated signal beam converge on a storing location to generate a sequence of first/second interference patterns to be sequentially stored on a holographic medium. A shift selectivity of the first complex reference beam is larger than that of the second complex reference beam so that the second interference pattern is used as a servo pattern to sequentially determine where the first interference patterns have been stored.

TL;DR: In this paper, a phase conjugate mirror was used as a PCM and the PCM reflectivity better than 90% has been achieved at optimized focusing conditions of an incoming beacon beam.
Abstract: Although the gain coefficient of the Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) of the fluorocarbon liquid C 8 F 18 is
substantially lower than for other nonlinear media, it is an attractive medium since its highly purified version has a high
optical breakdown threshold, and it is stable and very safe to operate. We have utilized it as a phase conjugate mirror
(PCM) and the PCM reflectivity better than 90% has been achieved at optimized focusing conditions of an incoming
beam. The output energy of the phase conjugated pulse linearly followed the input pulse energy after reaching the
threshold level at about 3.3 mJ. The slope efficiency was estimated about 95% without taking into account components'
losses. Brillouin amplification through SBS has been realized in highly purified fluorocarbon liquid C 8 F 18 . This report
discusses the design and results of performed experimental studies of the SBS in C 8 F 18 demonstrating the amplification
of a week signal beam (37 nJ) reaching up to 10 5 or 50 dB.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented experimental results showing near 100% polarization conjugation fidelity, in combination with compensation of phase distortions and high reflectivity, in order to work with depolarized radiation.
Abstract: The loop phase conjugate mirror (PCM) has attracted much of attention recently for application to high power solid state lasers. We suggest an idea how to modify the basic loop PCM optical scheme in order to work with depolarized radiation. In this paper we present experimental results showing near 100% polarization conjugation fidelity, in combination with compensation of phase distortions and high reflectivity. Basically, loop PCM is a laser that is seeded and triggered by an external signal beam, which we want to be phase conjugated.
