TL;DR: In this paper, a stochastic theory for multiphase systems sometimes encountered in relaxation phenomena is presented, and a close estimate is obtained of the life-time of a water molecuk in an adsorbing phase at low coverage on silica gel.
Abstract: Further evaluation studies of nuclear resonance relaxation phenomena of the hydrogen nuclei of HzO adsorbed on silica gel observed by means of radio frequency pulse techniques are described. A stochastic theory for multiphase systems sometimes encountered in relaxation phenomena is presented. Special emphasis is directed toward a theoretical understanding of two phase systems observed in the study of water vapor adsorbed on silica gel, Adsorption experiments are discussed which directly demonstrate, for a s ecific x / m value the simultaneous existence of (a) two phase behavior for transverse (T t ) relaxation measurements and (i) single hase behavior for longitudinal relaxation ( T I ) data. Finally, a close estimate is obtained of the life-time of a water molecuk in an adsorbing phase at low coverage on silica gel.

TL;DR: A novel kind of magnetic core/mesoporous silica shell nanospheres with a uniform particle diameter of ca.
Abstract: A novel kind of magnetic core/mesoporous silica shell nanospheres with a uniform particle diameter of ca. 270 nm was synthesized. The inner magnetic core endues the whole nanoparticle with magnetic properties, while the outer mesoporous silica shell shows high enough surface area and pore volume. The synthesized material is expected to be applied to targeted drug delivery and multiphase separation. The storage and release of ibuprofen into and from the pore channels of the mesoporous silica shell, as a typical example, are demonstrated.

TL;DR: In this article, the radical-chain polymerization of styrene using self-assembled monolayers of azo initiators covalently bound to high surface area silica gels is described.
Abstract: We report on the radical-chain polymerization of styrene using self-assembled monolayers of azo initiators covalently bound to high surface area silica gels. In this process monolayers of poly(styrene) molecules terminally attached to the surface of the inorganic substrate are obtained. As the initiator molecules are immobilized at the surfaces in a one-step reaction, well-reproducible layers can be prepared and the surface concentration of the initiator can be adjusted in a wide range between the limit of detection and full surface coverage. In the subsequent polymerization reactions polymer monolayers with high, controlled graft density can be obtained. The synthesis of the attached layers and the characterization by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy (DRIFT), and elemental analysis are described. After cleavage of an ester group that connects the polymers to the surface, the molecular weights of the polymers were determined. The results of the study show that th...
