TL;DR: Based on the field hydrological data including Yangtze River main stream and tributaries, and measured topographic data of the measured topographical data of Dongting Lake and Poyang Lake, the characteristics of water and sediment transporting, the patterns and variation of sediment erosion and deposition in the middle Yangtse River before and after the Three Gorges Reservoir operation are studied.
Abstract: Based on the field hydrological data including Yangtze River main stream and tributaries, and the measured topographic data of the middle Yangtze River,Dongting Lake and Poyang Lake, the characteristics of water and sediment transporting, the patterns and variation of sediment erosion and deposition in the middle Yangtze River before and after the Three Gorges Reservoir operation are studied The analysis leads to several conclusions, including:( 1) The annual runoff process is changed, such as the discharge of flood peak is cut down, the duration of medium discharge prolongs and the recession time is shorten Not only sediment discharge in the middle Yangtze River reduces sharply, but also the source of sediment is undergoing a changeThe water and sediment discharge diverted from Jingjiang reach to Dongting Lake continues to fall;( 2) The regime of the middle Yangtze River is steady in general, but the longitudinal erosion intensity of river bed increases obviously, both of the erosion intensity and rate are greater than the predicted values;( 3) The three flood diversion channels that connect the Jingjiang reach and Dongting Lake were in deposition before the operation of TGP,but they began to be scoured after 2003;( 4) The annual sediment siltation of Dongting Lake decreases greatly while Poyang Lake changes from siltation to scouring;( 5) The overall patterns of sediment erosion and deposition in the middle Yangtze River and two connected lakes were adjusted from siltation to scouring in general

TL;DR: A high relation of sediment yield with maximum water flow of the event (Qmax), and linear regression models showed the best performance between characteristic variables.
Abstract: Sediment yield in river catchments can cause siltation of reservoirs and channels, carries contaminants adhered to sediment particles, and represents water erosion at the catchment scale, leading to decreased agricultural productivity. Hydrological monitoring enables the understanding of overland flow and soil erosion dynamics. In this study, we analyzed whether the relationship between precipitation (P), water flow (Q), and suspended sediment concentration (SSC) during rainfall events shows the usefulness of hydrological and sedimentological monitoring in soil and water conservation projects to river catchments. We conducted a study in the Lajeado Ferreira catchment in southern Brazil. This catchment is characterized by high soil fragility and erosion rates because of relief and intense tobacco cultivation. The small size of the catchment (120 ha) allowed a better understanding of the processes that occurred between hillslope and watercourses. We analyzed 43 rainfall-runoff events (P-Q), and we selected characteristic variables of each event and related them to independent variables (climate, land use, and soil management) and their seasonality using regression techniques. We also conducted a hysteresis analysis to understand the behavior of SSC in relation to runoff. The results showed a high relation of sediment yield (SY) with maximum water flow of the event (Qmax), and linear regression models showed the best performance between characteristic variables. In addition, the seasonal variability of the land coverage presented greater influence on the SY than the precipitation itself.

TL;DR: In this paper, a cutoff channel of the Sandusky River in Crawford County, Ohio was used as a unique archive of channel bed material that existed in the previous channel, and grain-size analyses of the cutoff channel substrate were compared to similar data collected from the modern channel.

TL;DR: In this article, the dynamics of flow velocities and water level in the urban section of the Nevežis River at Kedainiai were estimated by applying a hydraulic-mathematical model, DELTA.
Abstract: Mathematical modelling of sediment transport and deposition in the floodplains and canals of rivers is closely related to the hydrodynamics, as well as the design of engineering measures, of water pollution control and reduction. The dynamics of flow velocities and water level in the urban section of the Nevežis River at Kedainiai were estimated by applying a hydraulic‐mathematical model, DELTA. It was established that there were no conditions for undesirable river‐bed siltation. During the dry season (Qv.f = m3/s), flow velocity did not exceed 0.5 m/s in the study section. When the discharge affected the formation of the riverbed (Qv.f = 70 m3/s), the flow velocity reached 1.2–1.3 m/s and accumulated bed sediments were washed away. A two‐meters high dam near Skongalis does not stimulate bed silting, as it is not high enough to have much influence on the bed formation processes or the reduction of riverside overgrowth. When the water level is low and the flow velocity is small (0.1 m/s), the wate...
