TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of strong wind and waves on sediment transport at Xiaoqing River estuary areas was simulated using the 3D model ECOMSED (Estuarine Coastal Ocean Model with sediment transport) with the wave parameters from the wave model SWAN.
Abstract: We simulate the effect of strong waves on the sediment transport at the Xiaoqing River estuary areas using the 3D model ECOMSED (Estuarine Coastal Ocean Model with sediment transport) with the wave parameters from the wave model SWAN (Simulating Waves Nearshore). The water depth, tidal current, suspended sediment and historical meteorological data are used to estimate the changes of the suspended sediment concentrations (SSC) and the bed scour and siltation (BSS) caused by strong wind and waves. We compare the simulation with the in situ data and find that the results are reliable. Results show that the sediment transport change greatly under the influence of strong wind and waves in the near-shore areas. The value of SSC is 10 times larger than that under the normal wind and wave condition. The change of BSS could be even as much as one hundred times. The result also show that the change of BSS resulting from strong wind and waves would have a great impact on the evolution of river estuary sandbars.

TL;DR: In this article, a physical model was developed, which simulated sediment transport under wave-current interactions, and several model tests on engineering measures against sudden siltation during storm surge were carried out.
Abstract: Natural conditions nearby Jingtang port are analyzed, construction history of the port in the last 20 years is recalled, and sudden siltation mechanism in the approach channel caused by storm surge was described.A physical model was developed, which simulated sediment transport under wave-current interactions.Sudden siltation in the approach channel caused by storm surge was successfully reproduced in the physical model for the first time.Several model tests on engineering measures against sudden siltation during storm surge were carried out.The basic conclusion was to extend breakwaters along the channel. The implementation of recommended breakwater layout took good effects. The modeling technologies and the port layout improvement can be used for reference for other coastal developments.

TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors studied the sedimentation of the man-made beach in the east coast of Tianjin Port using the whole tidal current and sediment physical model and wave flume model.
Abstract: Experiments are carried out to study the sedimentation of the man-made beach in the east coast of Tianjin Port using the whole tidal current and sediment physical model and wave flume model.Since the coastal area of the project is a typical flow mud transfer coast, sedimentation in the intertidal zone of the hydrophilic section(about 5cm a year) is inevitable.Under the condition of sheltering, the man-made beach is basically stable under a 10-year wave. But under a 50-year wave, the deformation of the beach profile will occur, with the loss quantity in single width of about 3.3 m~3/m.

TL;DR: In this paper, a siltation reduction system for a reservoir, which relates to a general water conservancy project, and in particular to system engineering for reducing siltations of the reservoir of heavily silt-carrying rivers, is presented.
Abstract: The invention provides a siltation reduction system for a reservoir, relates to a general water conservancy project, and in particular to system engineering for reducing siltation of the reservoir of heavily silt-carrying rivers. The IPC (International Patient Classification) of the siltation reduction system is No. E02B1/00 and No. E02B9/02. According to the system, a submerged sediment control dam is built in the reservoir to divide the reservoir into a clear water reservoir region and a muddy water reservoir region, a sand conveying culvert is adopted to discharge water flow containing sand far away from the upstream of the dam out of the reservoir, dual purposes of water storage of the reservoir and sand discharging are achieved, and the reservoir precipitation erosion distance is widened; tiny particle silt turning over the submerged sediment control dam to the reservoir region before the dam is discharged out of the reservoir through dam flood discharging tunnels in a submersible sand pump reservoir dredging manner; and for wide, shallow and curved deposition forms in the watercourses of the reservoir regions, smooth and straight reservoir river channels beneficial to density flow transport are built in a submersible sand pump sand-excavating dredging manner, and the natural sand discharging effect is improved. The siltation reduction system is suitable for heavily silt-carrying river reservoir building and deposited waste reservoir reformation engineering.

TL;DR: In order to find out the influence of pier construction on the seasonal change during beach reshaping, Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper measured the landform related to the beach profiles in March, July, October and December 2001, then compared and analyzed the changes in the profiles.
Abstract: The beach profile change southwest of Meizhou island occurred due to the construction of a passenger pier open to Taiwan in 1996,which caused a great deal of silting around the pier apron and resulted in the discard of the pier.Five years later, the beach profile still could not reach a balance state. In order to find out the influence of pier construction on the seasonal change during beach reshaping,we measured the landform related to the beach profiles in March,July,October and December 2001,then compared and analysed the changes in the profiles. The results showed that the seasonal changes in the profiles varied in different sections:1) the beach profile around the pier project section still shows continuous deposit, indicating that the project construction still affects the beach change process of reshaping over the past 5 years; 2) deposit in the transitional beach section is weaking, part of the profiles show erosion, and the seasonal changes there are close to those of natural beach profiles,3) the seasonal changes in the natural section show regularity that the upper part beach profiles(backshore and high tide belt) are eroded and the nether part beach profiles(low tide belt and shallow section) are deposited in Summer, and the opposite occurs in Winter, and the beach profile form is transitional in Spring and Autumn.
