TL;DR: In this paper, a magnetic tape is identified by recording patterns of continuous sine wave signal bursts and blank portions in non-recorded spaces between the program segments, which are arranged such that they may be read in either direction of tape travel, in order to identify the program segment from either direction, by forming the address code signals as complementary pairs.
Abstract: Program segments on a magnetic tape are identified by recording patterns of continuous sine wave signal bursts and blank portions in non-recorded spaces between the program segments, the continuous sine waves all having the same low-frequency relative to the audio frequency band and a selected number of continuous sine waves and a corresponding blank portion of the same length each form one level of a binary signal and a second burst of continuous sine waves and a corresponding blank portion of the same length each form the other level of the binary signal These four elements are arranged to provide an individual address code for each of the program segments on the magnetic tape and are arranged such that they may be read in either direction of tape travel, in order to identify the program segment from either direction, by forming the address code signals as complementary pairs based upon the location of the program segments relative to the ends of the tape

TL;DR: In this article, an optical transmitter configurating an optical transmission system according to this invention comprises a light source, an intensity modulator for modulating the intensity of light output from the light source according to NRZ data that is transmission data, and a polarization modulator, which is used to modulate the polarization of an output from a light modulator according to an alternating signal.
Abstract: An optical transmitter configurating an optical transmission system according to this invention comprises a light source, an intensity modulator for modulating the intensity of light output from the light source according to NRZ data that is transmission data, and a polarization modulator for modulating the polarization of an output from the intensity modulator according to an alternating signal. Instead of the NRZ data, an RZ signal maybe used for modulation, and instead of the alternating signal, a signal may be used that inverts a logic for those bits having a value for the larger intensity of the modulated light. A phase modulator using a bit rate frequency sine wave as a modulation input may be inserted between the intensity modulator and the polarization modulator. In this case, the intensity and phase modulators may be connected in the reverse order. In addition, at least one optical amplifier may be inserted between any adjacent modulators.

TL;DR: The proposed frequency-locked loop (FLL) utilizes the flat frequency response characteristics of the moving window filter (MWF) in closed-loop and adaptive sampling pulse adjustment for capacitance measurement.
Abstract: The proposed frequency-locked loop (FLL) utilizes the flat frequency response characteristics of the moving window filter (MWF) in closed-loop and adaptive sampling pulse adjustment for capacitance measurement An operational amplifier (op-amp) based relaxation oscillator generates a square wave whose fundamental sine wave is extracted by MWF Then, the fundamental sine wave is tracked by the FLL to estimate its frequency which is inversely proportional to the unknown capacitance The FLL employs another MWF to track the center frequency and its variation due to capacitance The MWF offers an almost flat frequency response around the center frequency in closed-loop However, the small magnitude and phase errors observed in the flat frequency response had been corrected by adjusting the sampling pulses adaptively Experimental investigation demonstrates the capabilities of the scheme for wider and accurate capacitance measurement

TL;DR: How one can modify the familiar spectral-comb analysis method to obtain a guaranteed and effective procedure to find the fundamental-frequency which gives the best harmonic approximation of the signal spectrum is described.
Abstract: This paper presents a novel low-complexity method for extracting periodicity of signals based on their sine-wave representation. In this representation, the signal is modeled as a finite sum of sine-waves, with time-varying amplitudes, phases and frequencies. We describe how one can modify the familiar spectral-comb analysis method to obtain a guaranteed and effective procedure to find the fundamental-frequency which gives the best harmonic approximation of the signal spectrum. The search is efficiently carried out in the frequency domain. The procedure obtains a successive refinement of possible pitch values which are consistent with an increasing number of sine wave components. Other pitch intervals are pruned at an early stage of the search. The advantage of this algorithm is its high accuracy achieved at a relatively low complexity. We also briefly describe one possible application in the area of pitch determination of speech signals.
