TL;DR: The authors propose the estimation of amplitude and phase using a linear time-varying Kalman filter that is easily extended to multiple frequencies and results are obtained using square-modulated sine waves and closed-loop AFM scans, verifying the performance of the proposed Kalman Filter.
Abstract: A fundamental challenge in dynamic mode atomic force microscopy (AFM) is the estimation of the cantilever oscillation amplitude from the deflection signal, which might be distorted by noise and/or high-frequency components. When the cantilever is excited at resonance, its deflection is typically obtained via narrow-band demodulation using a lock-in amplifier (LIA). However, the bandwidth of this measurement technique is ultimately bounded by the low-pass filter, which must be employed after demodulation to attenuate the component at twice the carrier frequency. Furthermore, to measure the amplitude of multiple frequency components, such as higher eigenmodes and/or higher harmonics in multifrequency AFM, multiple LIAs must be employed. In this paper, the authors propose the estimation of amplitude and phase using a linear time-varying Kalman filter that is easily extended to multiple frequencies. Experimental results are obtained using square-modulated sine waves and closed-loop AFM scans, verifying the performance of the proposed Kalman filter.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe various power factor schemes used to correct the power factor in electronic ballast or other types of power supplies, and the results are given for a matrix of low, normal, and high line voltages of a 4 lamp load greater than 300 W.
Abstract: The authors describe various power factor schemes used to correct the power factor in electronic ballast or other types of power supplies. This system provides an acceptable sine wave voltage and current to the laps. When the input DC voltage to the power inverter is varied the arc current is also varied, and thus a dimming system is possible. The power inverter used for the fluorescent lamp load is a current-fed sine wave inverter while the unique power factor correction and dimming is accomplished with a boost approach. Keeping the invertor the same, several historical passive techniques were designed, built, and tested. The results are given for a matrix of low, normal, and high line voltages of a 4 lamp load greater than 300 W. >

TL;DR: A new method for the generation of high-quality sinusoidal signals is presented, which has the advantage of having the characteristics of a classical pulsewidth-modulation signal and hence can be used to drive high-power switching devices with minimal conditioning.
Abstract: A new method for the generation of high-quality sinusoidal signals is presented. Multibit binary signals are represented using uniformly weighted single bit streams that can then be processed by digital logic. Building blocks that are useful for the construction of the sinusoidal generator are also presented. The bit-stream representation has the advantage of having the characteristics of a classical pulsewidth-modulation signal and hence can be used to drive high-power switching devices with minimal conditioning. The technique is simple and can easily be implemented using digital logic on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA). The operation of a single-phase inverter using the proposed technique is demonstrated using an Altera Stratix FPGA and a custom-built power stage. The complete digital design uses less than 200 logic elements. The performance of this technique is quantified using simulations and practical measurements. Practical implementations lead to total harmonic distortion measures ranging between 0.75% and 4.92%.

TL;DR: Visual evoked potentials to unstructured sine wave-modulated light were measured in 30 common migraine patients and 23 controls and the absolute and relative powers of the fundamental component were significantly larger in the patients at 16-22 Hz stimulation, whereas those of the 2nd harmonic component were smaller in the later stages of stimulation.

TL;DR: In this article, a resolver rotor is made of a flat-shaped rotor flat plate, and the stator flat plate and the rotor flatplate are placed in parallel to face each other.
Abstract: A rotation angle sensor comprises: a resolver stator including an excitation coil for receiving an excitation signal and a detection coil (a sine wave coil and a cosine wave coil) for outputting a detection signal; and a resolver rotor rotatably placed to face the stator. The resolver stator is formed on a stator flat plate. The resolver rotor is made of a flat-shaped rotor flat plate. The stator flat plate and the rotor flat plate are placed in parallel to face each other. The rotor flat plate is formed with a cutout.
