TL;DR: In this article, the nominal rock-salt structure of single crystal vanadium carbide is modified substantially by carbon vacancy ordering, and the material is hexagonal (trigonal), corresponding to an ordered compound V6C5, and contains a superlattice and domains.
Abstract: By means of transmission electron microscopy, electron diffraction and nuclear magnetic resonance, it is shown that the nominal rock-salt structure of single crystal vanadium carbide is modified substantially by carbon vacancy ordering. At a carbon/metal atom ratio of 0·84 the material is hexagonal (trigonal), corresponding to an ordered compound V6C5, and contains a superlattice and domains. The ordered structure is described and the formation of the domains is interpreted in terms of the structure.

TL;DR: In this article, applications of synchrotron X-ray scattering to electrochemistry problems are briefly reviewed ranging from submonolayer level phenomena, through nanometer size phenomena, to submicron size phenomena; that is, covering the full range of the 'interphase' at an electrode surface.

TL;DR: In this paper, the properties of nanosized supported metal clusters were investigated using low-energy ion scattering spectroscopy (LEIS), temperature-programmed desorption (TPD), X-ray photoelectron spectrograph (XPS) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and spectroscopic (STS) with emphasis on the unique properties of clusters <5.0 nm in size.
Abstract: Model catalysts consisting of Au and Ag clusters of varying size have been prepared on single crystal TiO2(110) and ultra-thin films of TiO2, SiO2 and Al2O3. The morphology, electronic structure, and catalytic properties of these Au and Ag clusters have been investigated using low-energy ion scattering spectroscopy (LEIS), temperature-programmed desorption (TPD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and spectroscopy (STS) with emphasis on the unique properties of clusters <5.0 nm in size. Motivating this work is the recent literature report that gold supported on TiO2 is active for various reactions including low-temperature CO oxidation and the selective oxidation of propylene. These studies illustrate the novel and unique physical and chemical properties of nanosized supported metal clusters.

TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive study of the transport, specific heat, magnetic susceptibility and optical spectroscopy on a single crystal of Fe$1.05}$Te is presented.
Abstract: We report on a comprehensive study of the transport, specific heat, magnetic susceptibility and optical spectroscopy on single crystal of Fe$_{1.05}$Te. We confirm that Fe$_{1.05}$Te undergoes a first-order phase transition near 65 K. However, its physical properties are considerably different from other parent compounds of FeAs-based systems, presumably attributed to the presence of excess Fe ions. The charge transport is rather incoherent above the transition, and no clear signature of the gap is observed below the transition temperature. Strong impurity scattering effect exists also in Se-doped superconducting sample Fe$_{1.03}$Se$_{0.30}$Te$_{0.70}$, leading to a relatively low T$_c$ but a rather high upper critical field.
