TL;DR: The early stages of passivation in high temperature water of a nickel-chromium-iron alloy (Alloy 600) have been investigated by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) as mentioned in this paper.

TL;DR: In this article, a single-molecule magnet with negative magnetoanisotropy has been found to have a S = 6 ground state with considerable negative magneto-isotropic properties, where the single ion zero-field interactions (DSz2) at each cobalt ion are the origin of the negative magnetosotropy.
Abstract: A cobalt molecule that functions as a single-molecule magnet, [Co4(hmp)4(MeOH)4Cl4], where hmp− is the anion of hydroxymethylpyridine, is reported. The core of the molecule consists of four Co(II) cations and four hmp− oxygen atom ions at the corners of a cube. Variable-field and variable-temperature magnetization data have been analyzed to establish that the molecule has a S=6 ground state with considerable negative magnetoanisotropy. Single-ion zero-field interactions (DSz2) at each cobalt ion are the origin of the negative magnetoanisotropy. A single crystal of the compound was studied by means of a micro-superconducting quantum interference device magnetometer in the range of 0.040–1.0 K. Hysteresis was found in the magnetization versus magnetic field response of this single crystal.

TL;DR: The pedestal growth method as mentioned in this paper has been shown to be a fast, simple, and inexpensive means to produce single crystals for property evaluation, making it an extremely valuable tool for surveying new materials.

TL;DR: In this paper, the temperature dependence of the lattice constant in Na0.5Bi 0.5TiO3 single crystal was studied by means of X-ray diffraction and two structural phase transitions were found in the temperature range 293-920 K.
Abstract: The temperature dependence of the lattice constant in Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3 single crystal was studied by means of X-ray diffraction. Two structural phase transitions were found in the temperature range 293-920 K: the cubic-to-tetragonal at 793 ± 5 K and the tetragonal-to-rhombohedral at 533 ± 5 K. The dielectric permittivity was measured and a considerable dispersion was observed. The shift of the dielectric permittivity maximums are linear in coordinates 1/T = F(In f).

TL;DR: In this paper, high quality vanadium dioxide (VO2) thin films have been successfully deposited by pulsed laser deposition without postannealing on (0001) and (1010) sapphire substrates.
Abstract: High quality vanadium dioxide (VO2) thin films have been successfully deposited by pulsed laser deposition without postannealing on (0001) and (1010) sapphire substrates. X‐ray diffraction reveals that the films are highly oriented with (010) planes parallel to the surface of the substrate. VO2 thin films on (0001) and (1010) substrates show semiconductor to metal transistions with electrical resistance changes as large as 4×104, 105, respectively. Thin films on (1010) substrate have a transition at as low as 55 °C with a hysteresis less than 1 °C. These transition properties are comparable with single crystal VO2.
