TL;DR: This work proposes a system that uses modern distributed processing technologies to analyze streams using stream slices, which are presented to analysts in a web-based visual analytics application, called NVisAware, and visually guides the user in the feature selection process to summarize the slices.
Abstract: The analysis of data streams is important in many security-related domains to gain situational awareness. To provide monitoring and visual analysis of such data streams, we propose a system, called NStreamAware, that uses modern distributed processing technologies to analyze streams using stream slices, which are presented to analysts in a web-based visual analytics application, called NVisAware. Furthermore, we visually guide the user in the feature selection process to summarize the slices to focus on the most interesting parts of the stream based on introduced expert knowledge of the analyst. We show through case studies, how the system can be used to gain situational awareness and eventually enhance network security. Furthermore, we apply the system to a social media data stream to compete in an international challenge to evaluate the applicability of our approach to other domains.

TL;DR: A discussion of an SA model is provided, a specific instantiation of the model is examined and it is demonstrated how it has been applied to two specific domains: Global Monitoring and Cyber Awareness.
Abstract: Full Spectrum Dominance, or as defined by Joint Vision 2020, the ability to be persuasive in peace, decisive in war and preeminent in any form of conflict, cannot be accomplished without the ability to know what the adversary is currently doing as well as the capacity to correctly anticipate the adversary's future actions. A key component in the ability to predict the adversary's intention is Situation Awareness (SA). In this paper we provide a discussion of an SA model, examine a specific instantiation of the model and demonstrate how it has been applied to two specific domains: Global Monitoring and Cyber Awareness. We conclude this paper with a discussion on future work.

TL;DR: Based on experiences from the military domain it is possible to develop strategic concepts that are related to the improvement of information sharing and collaboration as mentioned in this paper, which can also be applied to enhanced traffic incident management information systems.
Abstract: Successful traffic incident management presupposes a multi-disciplinary approach. To meet appropriately the safety and mobility needs of all affected parties, traffic incidents call for a high level of collaboration and coordination of involved agencies. Effective traffic incident management activities rely in particular on flexible communications and information systems.Based on experiences from the military domain it is possible to develop strategic concepts that are related to the improvement of information sharing and collaboration. Such concepts can also be applied to enhanced traffic incident management information systems. The present paper aims to offer a review of the state of the art in this field and to illustrate the empirical usefulness and benefits of traffic incident management.

TL;DR: The study of NSAS has great importance in improving abilities of responding to emergences, reducing losses of network attacks, revealing abnormally intrusions and enhancing system abilities of fighting back.
Abstract: The study of NSAS(Network Situation Awareness System or Cyberspace Situation Awareness System)has great importance in improving abilities of responding to emergences, reducing losses of network attacks, revealing abnormally intrusions and enhancing system abilities of fighting back. At first, the definition of situation awareness and the necessity of developing NSAS were given. Then, the definition of NSAS was presented and relationships of NSAS and IDS were discussed. The summarization of studying situation in the world is presented. The architecture of NSAS was proposed in the following. The key technology and difficulties related to building NSAS prototype are discussed. In the end, the future development of NSAS was described.
