TL;DR: This paper develops this cognitive engineering based approach and proposes novel quantitative measures of operators’ situation awareness based on eye gaze dynamics and demonstrates that the proposed measures reliably identify the situation awareness of the participants during various phases of abnormal situation management.

TL;DR: In this paper, a customizable situational awareness system is described that allows a user to customize the type of information that the user receives through a user interface, e.g., a dashboard, displayed by the system.
Abstract: A customizable situational awareness system is described that allows a user to customize the type of information that the user receives through a user interface, e.g., a dashboard, displayed by the system. In particular embodiments, the system can allow the user to configure alerts that are sent to the user's mobile or other device based on situational awareness events. In further embodiments, the customizable situational awareness system receives user configuration data related to flight events, maintenance events, and alerts. When the system receives situational awareness data, the system can retrieve the user's configuration data and display the situational awareness data based on the user's configuration data. Thus, aspects of the customizable situational awareness system allow the user to access information that is more relevant to the user and to filter out less relevant information.

TL;DR: In this article, a decision model for managing the movement of building occupants during fire emergencies is described, which uses three basic yes-no questions to divide building occupants into groups during a fire emergency and recommends one of two basic actions: (1) people remain where they are already located; (2) people relocate to a safer area in or outside the building, including the means by which they should travel to the new recommended location.

TL;DR: From the findings, some conclusions are drawn about the roles filled by signallers, electrical controllers and zone controllers within a perspective of distributed cognitive/social networks.
Abstract: At a time of change for the railway networks of Europe we have been developing tools to assess ergonomics aspects of railway network control. This is within the Railway Ergonomics Control Assessment Package (RECAP). Among the developments have been an audit instrument (REQUEST), tools to assess situation awareness (RESA) and staff loading (RELOAD), and workshops to predict opportunities for human error and organisational failure across rail network operations. This research is discussed with respect to the context of UK railway operations and the need for an expanding tradition of cognitive ergonomics fieldwork. From the findings we draw some conclusions about the roles filled by signallers, electrical controllers and zone controllers within a perspective of distributed cognitive/social networks.
