TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a real-time security, integrity, and reliability postures of operational (OT), information (IT), and security (ST) systems, as well as slower changing security and operational blueprint, policies, processes, and rules governing the enterprise security and business risk management process, dynamically evolve and adapt to domain, context, and situational awareness, and the controls implemented across the operational and information systems that are controlled.
Abstract: Real time security, integrity, and reliability postures of operational (OT), information (IT), and security (ST) systems, as well as slower changing security and operational blueprint, policies, processes, and rules governing the enterprise security and business risk management process, dynamically evolve and adapt to domain, context, and situational awareness, as well as the controls implemented across the operational and information systems that are controlled. Embodiments of the invention are systematized and pervasively applied across interconnected, interdependent, and diverse operational, information, and security systems to mitigate system-wide business risk, to improve efficiency and effectiveness of business processes and to enhance security control which conventional perimeter, network, or host based control and protection schemes cannot successfully perform.

TL;DR: A conceptual definition of situation awareness emerged along with recommendations for application in nursing, and content and relational analyses yielded 9 themes: perception, comprehension, projection, knowledge and expertise, cognitive overload, interruption management, task management, instantaneous learning, and cognitive stacking.
Abstract: Eighty percent of medical error are attributed to human factors. Human factors experts suggest the least explored factor in patient errors is attention, specifically, situation awareness. The purpose of this article was to analyze the concept of situation awareness using a hybrid concept analysis. The experience of situation awareness among nurses was elicited during the fieldwork phase through semistructured interviews. Content and relational analyses yielded 9 themes: perception, comprehension, projection, knowledge and expertise, cognitive overload, interruption management, task management, instantaneous learning, and cognitive stacking. A conceptual definition of situation awareness emerged along with recommendations for application in nursing.

TL;DR: A probabilistic normalcy model of vessel dynamics is learned using unsupervised techniques applied on historical S-AIS data and used for anomaly detection and prediction tasks, thus providing functionalities for high-level situational awareness (level 2 and 3 of the JDL).
Abstract: Automatic vessel behaviour analysis is a key factor for maritime surveillance and relies on an efficient representation of knowledge about vessels activity. Emerging technologies such as space-based AIS provides a new dimension of service and creates a need for new methods able to learn a maritime scene model at an oceanic scale. In this paper, we propose such a framework: a probabilistic normalcy model of vessel dynamics is learned using unsupervised techniques applied on historical S-AIS data and used for anomaly detection and prediction tasks, thus providing functionalities for high-level situational awareness (level 2 and 3 of the JDL).

TL;DR: A model to support the hypothesis that this network can to improve response to asymmetric threats is described, and a system architecture based on commercial-off-the-shelf technology for military operations in this new combat paradigm is described.
Abstract: The purpose of this investigative study is to develop a model for a system of systems to improve situation awareness and targeting through a real-time aerially deployed wireless sensor network. The main hypothesis of this work is that scalable, affordable, real-time wireless network can contribute to the common operating picture. This network can be used to overcome targeting discrepancies and counter asymmetric threats in the new warfare paradigm that pertains to opaque environments. Surveys identified requirements for a system of systems to meet requirements for situation assessment. This paper describes 1. a model to support the hypothesis that this network can to improve response to asymmetric threats, and 2. a system architecture based on commercial-off-the-shelf technology for military operations in this new combat paradigm.

01 Oct 1994TL;DR: In this article, the major goals, subgoals, decisions and associated situation awareness requirements for en-route air traffic control (ATC) were delineated based on elicitation from eight experienced Air Traffic Control Specialists.
Abstract: Situation awareness is a fundamental requirement for effective air traffic control forming the basis for controller decision making and performance. To develop a better understanding of the role of situation awareness in air traffic control, an analysis was performed to determine the specific situation awareness requirements for air traffic control. This was conducted as a goal-direct task analysis in which the major goals, subgoals, decisions and associated situation awareness requirements for En Route Air Traffic Control (ATC) were delineated based on elicitation from eight experienced Air Traffic Control Specialists. This effort was supported by available task analyses and video-tapes of simulated air traffic control tasks. A determination of the major situation awareness requirements for En Route ATC was developed from this analysis, providing a foundation for future system development which seeks to enhance controller situation awareness and provides a basis for the development of situation awareness...
