TL;DR: This paper explores trajectory clustering as a means for representing normal behavior in a coastal surveillance scenario and proposes a new approach, spline-based clustering, with a potential for solving the task of representing the normal course of events.
Abstract: Achieving superior situation awareness is a key task for military, as well as civilian, decision makers. Today, automatic systems provide us with an excellent opportunity for assisting the human decision maker in achieving this awareness. Due to the potential of information overload one important aspect is to understand where to focus attention. Anomaly detection is concerned with finding deviations from normalcy and it is an increasingly important topic when providing decision support, since it can give hints towards where more analysis is needed. In this paper we explore trajectory clustering as a means for representing normal behavior in a coastal surveillance scenario. Trajectory clustering however suffers from some drawbacks in this type of setting and we therefore propose a new approach, spline-based clustering, with a potential for solving the task of representing the normal course of events.

TL;DR: The OnkoNet Mobile Agents Architecture is developed in detail involving architectures on the macrolevel and microlevel as well as cooperation protocols, inference models controlling system behaviour, and a health ontology.
Abstract: This paper introduces ubiquitous healthcare, addressing the access of health services by individual consumers applying to mobile computing devices. This access requires knowledge about the individual health status, which may involve (as far as available) the current personal situation (e.g., accident), relevant recent diseases etc., current symptoms or already available diagnosis. Addressing the related IT challenges - e.g., patient-centric knowledge processing, situation awareness, local control - we develop in detail the OnkoNet Mobile Agents Architecture involving architectures on the macrolevel and microlevel as well as cooperation protocols, inference models controlling system behaviour, and a health ontology.

TL;DR: The results show that drivers are able to successfully retrieve control, also within time-critical situations, and that the ability to retrieve control is positively influenced if drivers gain increased levels of SA.
Abstract: When applying automated driving as a means for congestion assistance, developers are challenged how to accommodate the transitions between automated and manually driving, especially because these transitions might occur regularly and suddenly. During automated driving, the ability to take over control is also aggravated due to the driver being placed out of the control-loop. To assess then the ability to retrieve human control, we tested within a driver simulator experiment the influence of criticality (available time) on Situation Awareness (SA) gained during time-critical take-overs within a scenario of congested driving. Though one of the applied measurement methods did not show the expected effect of SA on successfulness of taking back control, the results show that drivers are able to successfully retrieve control, also within time-critical situations. Furthermore, the results show that the ability to retrieve control is positively influenced if drivers gain increased levels of SA.

TL;DR: The basic concepts of the teleoperated driving of road vehicles are outlined, including a static multi-camera design, an operator interface with a sensor fusion based display, and a cellular network based video transmission and communication architecture.
Abstract: The possibility to provision road vehicles unmanned and on demand will have an important influence on the development of new mobility concepts. We therefore present the teleoperated driving of road vehicles. This paper outlines the basic concepts, including a static multi-camera design, an operator interface with a sensor fusion based display, and a cellular network based video transmission and communication architecture. We also show how we manage to fulfill the system's technical requirements with our hard- and software design and point out the occurring problems due to communication limitations and lack of situation awareness. Finally, we propose solutions to guarantee driving safety.

TL;DR: This research, based on a grounded theory analysis of current games, is the first to provide a characterization of awareness cues, providing a palette for game designers to improve design practice and a starting point for deeper research into collaborative play.
Abstract: In the physical world, teammates develop situation awareness about each other's location, status, and actions through cues such as gaze direction and ambient noise. To support situation awareness, distributed multiplayer games provide awareness cues - information that games automatically make available to players to support cooperative gameplay. The design of awareness cues can be extremely complex, impacting how players experience games and work with teammates. Despite the importance of awareness cues, designers have little beyond experiential knowledge to guide their design. In this work, we describe a design framework for awareness cues, providing insight into what information they provide, how they communicate this information, and how design choices can impact play experience. Our research, based on a grounded theory analysis of current games, is the first to provide a characterization of awareness cues, providing a palette for game designers to improve design practice and a starting point for deeper research into collaborative play.
