TL;DR: In this article, the authors suggest that it is necessary to assess a candidate not only in terms of the skills found in the behavior of experienced workers but also in the main skills required during the learning process.
Abstract: The skills shown by an experienced worker are necessary for the new candidate to acquire but are not sufficient for his becoming proficient. Other skills acquired during the learning process are necessary to successful execution of the job even though they are no longer needed when the experienced worker standard has been reached. This suggests that it is necessary to assess a candidate not only in terms of the skills found in the behavior of experienced workers but also in terms of the main skills required during the learning process. This approach would allow for greater predictive power of the selection assessment.

TL;DR: In this article, problems in the development of leadership evaluation methods, within the context of soft skills systems engineering itself are discussed, including the difficulty of finding a "true expert", the general lack of clarity concerning ultimate criterion measures, and the fact that leadership skills are essentially disjunctive (as most other soft skills probably are).
Abstract: : Problems in the development of leadership evaluation methods, within the context of soft skills systems engineering itself are discussed. Problems include the difficulty of finding a 'true expert', the general lack of clarity concerning ultimate criterion measures, and the fact that leadership skills are essentially disjunctive (as most other soft skills probably are). The paper agrees with Whitmore as to the value of the behavioral scientist in soft skills systems engineering, but also cautions against theoretical biases that may lead to misdirected work, and misconceptions due to lack of experience as a line executive. Either may be counterproductive.

TL;DR: The psychodynamic pattern of acquiring psychotherapy skills can be viewed as one that exhibits regressive periods which tend towards one of two poles, ‘moving towards’, and ‘distancing’.
Abstract: The psychodynamic pattern of acquiring psychotherapy skills can be viewed as one that exhibits regressive periods which tend towards one of two poles, ‘moving towards’, and ‘distancing’. A major block to learning, especially the learning of individual psychotherapy, is the resident's difficulties in the area of self-awareness. Pointing out psychodynamic patterns to him is essential, both to make him cognizant of the existence of the unconscious in the fullest sense and to allow the learning process to progress, possibly in a more adaptive way. Individual psychotherapy supervision is a major vehicle for such learning. Some guidelines for psychotherapy supervision are presented.

TL;DR: Attempting to get the best of both worlds in management education is always an elusive goal.
Abstract: Attempting to get the best of both worlds is always an elusive goal. Perhaps this is why there has been so much irritable recrimination in the management education world during the past two years.

TL;DR: The notion of good management has long been recognized as one of those drab, but necessary, virtues in advanced industrial societies as mentioned in this paper, particularly among the learned professions, and management has been viewed as a collection of mechanical skills that are necessary to maintain the semblance of order required for corporate activity.
Abstract: "Good management" has long been recognized as one of those drab, but necessary, virtues in advanced industrial societies. Particularly among the learned professions, "management" has been viewed as a collection of mechanical skills that are necessary to maintain the semblance of order required for corporate activity. To designate an academic administrator as a "good manager" has been roughly analogous to describing a blind date as having a "good personality"; both characterizations may be regarded as residual virtues to be recognized in the absence of other normative or aesthetic properties. If management has a role to play, it should be limited to commercial or market activities where considerations of service or intellect are not as critical.

TL;DR: A learning hierarchy is a sequential structure of behavioral objectives, which increases the effectiveness of instructional units by identifying the prerequisite skills which students must acquire to enable them to master the terminal objective of the unit.
Abstract: A learning hierarchy, a sequential structure of behavioral objectives, increases the effectiveness of instructional units by identifying the prerequisite skills which students must acquire to enable them to master the terminal objective of the unit. This paper discusses the theory of learning hierarchies proposed by Gagne and then applies the theory to a tentative hierarchy of organizational skills. The final section provides practical suggestions for teachers interested in developing hierarchies.

TL;DR: An overview of research on the relation between measurable perceptual-motor skills in young children and academic success can be found in this paper, where the relationship between perceptual strength and prescriptive teaching is examined.
Abstract: An overview of research on the relation between measurable perceptual-motor skills in young children and academic success reveals a primitive state of the art. The relationship between perceptual strength and prescriptive teaching is examined. Commonly used diagnostic tests are described. Current usefulness of a carefully constructed and analyzed learning profile for early identification of potential learning problems, despite preset limitations, is discussed. The direction research must take to refine the spectrum of discrete, identifiable perceptual-motor skills is indicated.
