Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering apparatus for enhancing the convergence at high speed lane change. SOLUTION: The quantity of assist is reduced based on the value obtained by multiplying a target slip angle differential value by a car speed and a vehicle weight. Consequently, even in a high speed lane change in which the slip angle differential value does not become so large, the steering is rendered heavy based on the slip angle differential value, car speed and vehicle weight (vehicle inertia) in order to inhibit sudden changes in slip angle differential value, i.e. slip angle. Abstract: Molecular-dynamics simulations of two immiscible fluids confined between solid walls and sheared in a Couette geometry were performed as a function of shear rate for a range of wall and fluid properties. Changes with capillary number in the interface shape and dynamic contact angle were consistent with previous analytic results. Computed velocity fields showed that the usual no-slip boundary condition broke down within \ensuremath{\sim}2 atomic spacings from the contact line. The slip appears to be associated with the breakdown of local hydrodynamic theory at atomic scales.

Abstract: Vehicle motion and tire force histories are estimated from an incomplete, noise-corrupted measurement set using an extended Kalman filter. A nine degree-of-freedom vehicle model and an analytic tire force model are used to simulate true vehicle motion, and a five degree-of-freedom vehicle model is used in the estimator. The filtered histories of forces and motion can be used to construct tire force models through off-line analysis, and both tire force estimates and state estimates are available for real time control. No prior knowledge of tire force characteristics or external factors that affect vehicle motion is required for the nonlinear estimation procedure. Simulation of a simple slip control braking system using slip and slip angle estimates for feedback demonstrates the effectiveness of the extended Kalman filter in providing adequate state estimates for advanced control of ground vehicles. >
