TL;DR: In this paper, a camera detects devices, such as other cameras, smart devices, and access points, with which the camera may communicate and switches between operating as a wireless station and a wireless access point.
Abstract: A camera detects devices, such as other cameras, smart devices, and access points, with which the camera may communicate. The camera may alternate between operating as a wireless station and a wireless access point. The camera may connect to and receive credentials from a device for another device to which it is not connected. In one embodiment, the camera is configured to operate as a wireless access point, and is configured to receive credentials from a smart device operating as a wireless station. The camera may then transfer the credentials to additional cameras, each configured to operate as wireless stations. The camera and additional cameras may connect to a smart device directly or indirectly (for instance, through an access point), and the smart device may change the camera mode of the cameras. The initial modes of the cameras may be preserved and restored by the smart device upon disconnection.

TL;DR: The design of a high resolution smart camera with a GigE vision extension for automated video surveillance systems and the features of the new camera interface standard, GigE Vision will be introduced and its suitability for video surveillance Systems are described.
Abstract: Intelligent video surveillance is currently a hot topic in computer vision research. The goal of intelligent video surveillance is to process the captured video from the monitored area, extract specific information and take appropriate action based on that information. Due to the high computational complexity of vision tasks and the real-time nature of these systems, current software-based intelligent video surveillance systems are unable to perform sophisticated operations. Smart cameras are a key component for future intelligent surveillance systems. They use embedded processing to offload computationally intensive vision tasks from the host processing computers and increasingly reduce the required communication bandwidth and data flows over the network. This paper reports on the design of a high resolution smart camera with a GigE vision extension for automated video surveillance systems. The features of the new camera interface standard, GigE Vision will be introduced and its suitability for video surveillance systems will be described. The surveillance framework for which the GigE vision standard has been developed is presented as well as a brief overview of the proposed smart camera.

TL;DR: It is found that network is a performance bottleneck in the design, and the system using an optimized NoC can outperform one using a bus by 132%, and the simulations are based upon recorded real communication traces, which give more accurate system performance.
Abstract: In this paper we study bus-based and switch-based on-chip networks for an embedded video application, the smart camera SoC (system on chip). We analyze network performance and overall system performance in detail. We explore system performance using crossbars with different sizes, fixed size but different numbers of ports, and different numbers of shared memories. We find that network is a performance bottleneck in our design, and the system using an optimized NoC can outperform one using a bus by 132%. Our simulations are based upon recorded real communication traces, which give more accurate system performance. Our study finds that for the Smart Camera system, a 16-bit/port 3/spl times/3 crossbar with two shared memories shows 85.7% performance improvement over the bus-based model and also has less maximum network throughput than the bus-based model. This design example illustrates a methodology to quickly and accurately estimate the performance of NoC's at architecture level.

TL;DR: In this paper, the main controller has a plurality of communication sections that perform wireless communication by using communication systems having different communication speeds, and a camera communication control section for selecting the first camera communication sections and the second camera communication section according to the information to be transmitted and received, as a communication section to perform communication.
Abstract: A main controller used in a security system having a sensor or a camera performs wireless communication with the sensor or the camera so as to control the sensor or the camera. The main controller has a plurality of communication sections that perform wireless communication by using communication systems having different communication speeds. The camera transmits and receives information by performing wireless communication with the main controller. The camera is provided with a first camera communication section and a second camera communication section that perform wireless communication by using communication systems having different communication speeds, and a camera communication control section for selecting the first camera communication section and the second camera communication section according to the information to be transmitted and received, as a communication section to perform communication.
