TL;DR: In this paper, a camera detects devices, such as other cameras, smart devices, and access points, with which the camera may communicate and switches between operating as a wireless station and a wireless access point.
Abstract: A camera detects devices, such as other cameras, smart devices, and access points, with which the camera may communicate. The camera may alternate between operating as a wireless station and a wireless access point. The camera may connect to and receive credentials from a device for another device to which it is not connected. In one embodiment, the camera is configured to operate as a wireless access point, and is configured to receive credentials from a smart device operating as a wireless station. The camera may then transfer the credentials to additional cameras, each configured to operate as wireless stations. The camera and additional cameras may connect to a smart device directly or indirectly (for instance, through an access point), and the smart device may change the camera mode of the cameras. The initial modes of the cameras may be preserved and restored by the smart device upon disconnection.

TL;DR: In this article, a low-vision viewer magnifies the face-up source material in the visual field of a camera and displays the magnified image on a VDU or other display means.
Abstract: A low-vision viewer magnifies the face-up source material in the visual field of a camera and displays the magnified image on a VDU or other display means. In a static mode, the camera captures and stores a high-resolution image of the source material. This high-resolution image can be manipulated and subsequently displayed on the VDU. In a live mode, the camera captures a low resolution image of the source material or a high resolution image of a section of the source material to provide a high frame rate for full motion video. In the live capture mode, the low-vision user can move their view around the source material and zoom in on a desired section of interest. The same camera is used in either static or live modes.

30 Mar 2004TL;DR: In this article, a camera module forms digital images and measures an ambient light level to save power or optimize functionality of the I/O systems such as keypads or displays.
Abstract: A camera module forms digital images and measures an ambient light level. A device such as a digital camera, a telephone, or a PDA containing the camera module can set lighting levels of I/O systems such as keypads or displays according to the ambient light level to thereby save power or optimize functionality of the I/O systems. A dedicated sensor in the camera module or one or more selected sensors in the imaging array of the camera module can measure the ambient light level.

TL;DR: A high-speed smart camera based on a CMOS sensor with embedded processing, dedicated to feature extraction such as edge detection, markers extraction, or image analysis, wavelet analysis, and object tracking and an FPGA embedded inside the camera is proposed.
Abstract: High-speed video cameras are powerful tools for investigating for instance the biomechanics analysis or the movements of mechanical parts in manufacturing processes. In the past years, the use of CMOS sensors instead of CCDs has enabled the development of high-speed video cameras offering digital outputs, readout flexibility, and lower manufacturing costs. In this paper, we propose a high-speed smart camera based on a CMOS sensor with embedded processing. Two types of algorithms have been implemented. A compression algorithm, specific to high-speed imaging constraints, has been implemented. This implementation allows to reduce the large data flow (6.55 Gbps) and to propose a transfer on a serial output link (USB 2.0). The second type of algorithm is dedicated to feature extraction such as edge detection, markers extraction, or image analysis, wavelet analysis, and object tracking. These image processing algorithms have been implemented into an FPGA embedded inside the camera. These implementations are low-cost in terms of hardware resources. This FPGA technology allows us to process in real time 500 images per second with a 1280 × 1024 resolution. This camera system is a reconfigurable platform, other image processing algorithms can be implemented.

TL;DR: In this paper, a multiple position camera apparatus and method for a three-dimensional computer controlled telepresence camera system useful in surrogate travel type applications is presented, which enables a tele-presence application provider to form multi-view application specific stored image sequences from up to six orthogonally positioned cameras.
Abstract: A multiple position camera apparatus and method for a three-dimensional computer controlled telepresence camera system useful in surrogate travel type applications. In one embodiment, it enables a telepresence application provider to form multi-view application specific stored image sequences from up to six orthogonally positioned cameras. It furthermore enables a telepresence user to subsequently retrieve for remote viewing particular subsets of the available image sequences and/or groups of sequences via a monitoring and display system. A viewing procedure provides the user with the ability to proceed spatially and/or contiguously along any camera to camera direction. It further uses a wire cage to enable the definition and setting of the field of view of each camera.
