TL;DR: In this article, a camera control system for selecting one or more cameras from a plurality of controllable cameras connected to a network, and performing video display and camera control is presented.
Abstract: An object of this invention is to provide a camera control system for improving a camera control function at a control terminal. To achieve this object, a camera control system for selecting one or more cameras from a plurality of controllable cameras connected to a network, and performing video display and camera control includes a map display monitor, a mouse for designating one point on a map displayed by the monitor, a camera selection unit for selecting an optimal camera capable of monitoring the point designated by the mouse, and a camera control unit for controlling the camera selected by the camera selection unit.

TL;DR: The central point of this paper is focused on the closed-loop control law that drives the robot to its desired position using this image path and does not require either a global reconstruction or a temporal planning step.
Abstract: In this paper a new method is proposed to control a vision-based robot in large navigation spaces. In this case, visual features observed by an on-board camera can change drastically or even disappear completely between the initial image, as seen at the beginning of a task, and the final image, as seen at the desired position of the robot. These features are therefore not sufficient for controlling the entire motion of the robotic system from beginning to end. This problem requires a more complete definition and representation of the navigation space. This can be achieved by a topological representation, where the environment is directly defined in the sensor space by a data-base of images. In our approach, this data-base is acquired during an offline learning step. An image retrieval method then indexes and matches a request image, given by the camera, to the closest view within the data-base. In this way, an image path is extracted from the database to link the initial and desired images providing enough information to control the robot. The central point of this paper is focused on the closed-loop control law that drives the robot to its desired position using this image path. The method proposed does not require either a global reconstruction or a temporal planning step. Furthermore, the robot is not obliged to converge directly upon each image waypoint but chooses automatically a better trajectory. The visual servoing control law designed uses specific features which ensure that the robot navigates within the visibility path. Experimental simulations are given to show the effectiveness of this method for controlling the motion of a camera in three-dimensional environments (free-flying camera, or camera moving on a plane).

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a PC camera with various application which is capable of being used as a digital camera independently after separating from the PC by adjusting focus and brightness of the PC camera when it is used as the digital camera.
Abstract: In the conventional technology, the PC camera can operate only when it is connected to the PC, and it only has a function for transmitting a photographed image to the PC. Accordingly, the conventional PC camera can not be used as a camera after it is separated from the PC. The present invention provides a PC camera with various application which is capable of being used as a digital camera independently after separating from the PC. In addition, the present invention is capable of listening digital audio data by storing the digital audio data. And, the present invention is capable of adjusting focus and brightness of the PC camera when it is independently used as the digital camera. In addition, the present invention is capable of transmitting the image photographed by the PC camera or compressed the photographed image by a wireless communication method. Accordingly, the present invention can satisfy a user by adding the digital camera function and MP3 reproducing function to the PC camera. In addition, the present invention can improve capability of a product by comprising a video conference function and making possible editing and storing of the image photographed by the digital camera function by adapting a USB standard.

TL;DR: This paper identifies important middleware services and presents their lightweight middleware implemented on the authors' distributed SmartCams, and a multi-camera tracking application demonstrates the benefits of this approach.
Abstract: Two trends emerge in recent image processing research: distributed computing and embedded processing. Both trends are exemplified in smart cameras which combine image sensing, image processing and communication on a single embedded device. Networks of distributed smart cameras help to overcome some hard problems that are inherent in single-camera systems. Designing, implementing and deploying image processing applications for cooperating distributed cameras is much more complex than for single-camera systems. In this paper, we focus on software services required for distributed embedded image processing on a network of smart cameras. We identify important middleware services and present our lightweight middleware implemented on our distributed SmartCams. A multi-camera tracking application demonstrates the benefits of our approach.

TL;DR: The system design of a time-of-flight (TOF) 3D range camera for parking assist and backup application based on measuring the time delay of modulated infrared light from an active emitter, fabricated on standard CMOS process is described.
Abstract: External sensing applications in automobiles are enabled by Microsystems that can sense and analyze 3D environment. In this paper, we describe the system design of a time-of-flight (TOF) 3D range camera for parking assist and backup application. The camera operates based on measuring the time delay of modulated infrared light from an active emitter, using a single detector chip fabricated on standard CMOS process. The system analysis approach involves a step-by-step process that maps the application requirements to a series of camera design decisions producing the specification for a camera solution that is optimized for size, cost, power and application performance. The analysis process uses the empirical and theoretical performance properties of a 3D TOF sensor and the camera optics. It defines the profile of an optimal light source that delivers the necessary depth resolution for the given volume of interest in the application.
