TL;DR: In this paper, two routes to protected derivatives of 2,5-anhydroallitol were investigated, and the first route, involving a two-step reduction, gave a mixture of 2.5-Anhydro-6-O -benzoyl-3,4,6-tri- O -isopropylidene- D -altritol and a lesser amount of the desired 2.

TL;DR: Cotton and rayon fabrics were condensed with N-methylol acrylamide to give products with various degrees of un saturation and significant flame retardancy was obtained without alteration of hand, because the reactions are limited to the inside of the cellulose fiber.
Abstract: Cotton and rayon fabrics were condensed with N-methylol acrylamide to give products with various degrees of un saturation. Radiation-induced free-radical addition to the double bonds in these fabrics was accomplished with carbon tetrachloride, bromoform, chloroform, bromotetrachloromethane, polyethylene oxide, chloral and bromal hydrate, and sodium hypophosphite. Stannous and stannic chloride were also reacted by what seems to be a different mechanism. Bromination of these fabrics is also described. Significant flame retardancy was obtained without alteration of hand, because the reactions are limited to the inside of the cellulose fiber.

TL;DR: In this paper, an improved process for preparing an aromatic polycarbonate, which improvement comprises carrying out the reaction in the presence of a minor amount of a particular hypophosphite such as alkali earth metal or alkali metal hyperphosphite, was described.
Abstract: An improved process for preparing an aromatic polycarbonate, which improvement comprises carrying out the reaction in the presence of a minor amount of a particular hypophosphite such as alkali earth metal or alkali metal hypophosphite and, in particular, sodium hypophosphite. The mere employing of the particular additive in the reaction medium results in a polycarbonate having improved resistance to thermal degradation.

TL;DR: In this paper, a magnetic material for high-density recording of short-wavelength signals is produced by immersing a non-magnetic carrier in a soln. contg. of a ferromagnetic metal (Co or Ni) and a reducing cpd.
Abstract: Magnetic material for high-density recording of short-wavelength signals is produced by immersing a non-magnetic carrier in a soln. contg. a saltns) of a ferromagnetic metal (Co or Ni) and a reducing cpd. (e.g. sodium hypophosphite), and applying a magnetic field. Thin, magnetically anisotropic ferromagnetic metal film is formed; it has oriented acicular grain structure, and shows superior magnetic properties, in particular coercive force, rectangularity of the hysteresis loop and sensitivity.
