TL;DR: A β-cyanoalanine (β-(- CNAla)-forming enzyme, which catalyzed the formation of β-CNAla from O-acetyl-L-serine and sodium cyanide, was isolated in crystalline form from Enterobacter sp.
Abstract: A β-cyanoalanine (β-(-CNAla)-forming enzyme, which catalyzed the formation of β-CNAla from O-acetyl-L-serine and sodium cyanide, was isolated in crystalline form from Enterobacter sp. 10-1, a cyanide-resistant strain. The purification procedure involved protamine treatment, ammonium sulfate fractionation, column chromatography on DEAE-cellulose, DEAE-Sephadex A50, Sephadex G-100 and hydroxyapatite, and crystallization with ammonium sulfate. The crystalline enzyme was homogeneous by criteria of the ultracentrifugation and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The enzyme was determined to have a molecular weight of about 68, 000, and consisted of two apparently identical subunits, each having a molecular weight of about 34, 000. The enzyme also catalyzed the formation of cysteine from O-acetyl-L-serine and sodium sulfide, and the cysteine-forming activity was 245 times greater than that of the β-CNAla-forming activity.

TL;DR: In this article, a pulp from softwood, freed almost completely from metals by soaking with SO 2 -water and EDTA, was oxygen bleached in the presence of different alkali sources, e.g., white liquor and oxidized white liquor.
Abstract: Kraft pulp from softwood, freed almost completely from metals by soaking with SO 2 -water and EDTA, was oxygen bleached in the presence of different alkali sources, e.g., white liquor and oxidized white liquor. Sodium sulfide was found to affect the pulp quality adversely, while the influence of sodium thiosulfate was slightly favorable. The total amount of sulfur present during the bleaching appeared almost quantitavely in the spent bleach liquor, mainly as thiosulfate and sulfate. However, a large proportion of the sulfate that was formed during the bleaching could not be derived from thiosulfate. The addition of a substantial amount of manganese suppressed the depolymerization of the cellulose markedly, giving rise to increased selectivity, defined as the viscosity at a given kappa number. When magnesium protector was added in the molar ratio Mg:Mn=10, a further gain in selectivity was obtained, but the rate of delignification was somewhat retarded. Application : manganese removal from the pulp can be done during the oxygen bleaching, yielding a pulp that is easier to further bleach.

TL;DR: In this paper, a process for synthesizing a low-chlorine film polyphenylene sulfide resin is described, which has low total content of Halogens, low volatile matter and polydispersity index, narrow molecular weight distribution, high oxygen index and excellent dielectric properties.
Abstract: The invention discloses a process for synthesizing a low-chlorine film polyphenylene sulfide resin. In the process, sodium sulfide and santochlor are taken as raw materials, N-methyl-2pyrrolidone (NMP) is used as a solvent, and the ratio of sodium sulfide to santochlor to NMP to NaOH to sodium bicarbonate to NaHS is 1:1:3.9:(0.2-0.3):(0.2-0.3):0.05. The process comprises the following steps: in the dehydration period of the sodium sulfide, under the condition of relative low temperature of 120-130 DEG C and pressure of -0.3Mpa and the protection of nitrogen, carrying out vacuum dehydration on the sodium sulfide to obtain the sodium sulfide solution of which the moisture content is 1.0-1.2mol/mol Na2S; adding NaOH, NMP and P-DCB at a corresponding molar ratio; and finally reducing the temperature at a temperature-reducing speed of 30 DEG C/min, and washing and drying to obtain the low-chlorine film polyphenylene sulfide resin required in the invention. The product in the invention has low total content of Halogens, low volatile matter and polydispersity index, narrow molecular weight distribution, high oxygen index, and excellent dielectric properties, and can be used as an insulating material or packaging material for electronic and electrical equipment.
