TL;DR: In this paper, a mixture simulating the initial conditions for the proposed process (sodium carbonate, sodium sulfide/polysulfide and sodium sulfate) exhibited carbonate oxidation and sulfate reduction at the limits of the potential window.
Abstract: Cyclic voltammetry (CV) has been used to investigate molten salt mixtures in the temperature range of 820–840 °C between the initial and anticipated final compositions for the proposed electrolytic recausticizing process of inorganic pulping chemicals. A mixture simulating the initial conditions for the proposed process (sodium carbonate, sodium sulfide/polysulfide and sodium sulfate) exhibited carbonate oxidation and sulfate reduction at the limits of the potential window. Additional oxidation of sulfide to sulfur occurs at potentials inside the positive limit of the potential window with subsequent chemical reaction to form polysulfide. To simulate the final composition sodium oxide and peroxide were added to the mixtures; the resulting CVs had an additional oxidation peak attributed to oxide and peroxide oxidation. We conclude the electrolytic recycle process is feasible, producing sulfide and oxide from carbonate and sulfate of sodium in the molten state, yet separation is necessary between the anolyte and catholyte so the reduction products are not consumed by oxidation.

TL;DR: In this paper, an auxiliary-addition-free polyphenylene sulfide resin industrial synthetic process is described, in which a pipeline filter is adopted to filtrate a sodium hydrosulfide solution to treat mechanical impurities in the solution, then a sodium hyroxide solution with the concentration 84 mol percent is added in the formula for chemical treatment on the sodium sulfide; secondly, in the condensation polymerization stage, anaerobic deionized water is added to further appropriately adjust the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution coefficient of synthesized polyphenylon sulf
Abstract: The invention discloses auxiliary-addition-free polyphenylene sulfide resin industrial synthetic process. The formula of raw materials required in the auxiliary-addition-free polyphenylene sulfide resin industrial synthetic process is as follows: the mole ratio of sodium sulfide to sodium hydroxide to santochlor to N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone is 0.93-1.15 to 1.00-1.28 to 1.98-2.98 to 1.18 to 1.48. The industrial synthetic process mainly comprises the following steps: firstly, in a sodium hydrosulfide dehydration treatment stage, a pipeline filter is adopted to filtrate a sodium hydrosulfide solution to treat mechanical impurities in the solution, then a sodium hydroxide solution with the concentration 84 mol percent is added in the formula for chemical treatment on the sodium hydrosulfide; secondly, in the condensation polymerization stage, anaerobic deionized water is added to further appropriately adjust the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution coefficient of synthesized polyphenylene sulfide resin; thirdly, deionized water is adopted for repeatedly scrubbing for 3 to 6 times, and finally, the target product of the auxiliary-addition-free polyphenylene sulfide resin industrial synthetic process provided by the invention is obtained. The resin in the obtained product of the auxiliary-addition-free polyphenylene sulfide resin industrial synthetic process is low in polydispersity index and high in oxygen index, and has an excellent electrical insulation property.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of water hydration of sodium sulfide in solution, polymerization temperature, and polymerization time, and stoichiometric ratio of monomers on the polymerization behavior of poly(phenylene sulfide ketone) was investigated with respect to inherent viscosity and yield.
Abstract: Poly(phenylene sulfide ketone) (PPSK) was synthesized by the reaction of sodium sulfide with 4,4'-dichlorobenzophenone in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone through the Phillips process. The effect of water hydration of sodium sulfide in solution, polymerization temperature, polymerization time, and stoichiometric ratio of monomers on the polymerization behavior of PPSK were investigated with respect to inherent viscosity and yield. Thermal degradation parameters of PPSK synthesized were investigated by dynamic thermogravimetry. To determine thermal degradation energy, Kissinger, Ozawa, and Friedman methods were used and activation energies were 202.3, 233.6, and 232.2 kJ/mol, respectively.
