TL;DR: In this paper, a variable reluctance actuator with a moving element operated by a solenoid is described, where the current in the actuator is controlled by a signal representative of the flux density in the magnetic circuit.
Abstract: A controlled force variable reluctance actuator. A variable reluctance actuator having a moving element operated by a solenoid is provided in which the current in the solenoid is controlled by a signal representative of the flux density in the magnetic circuit of the actuator. The signal is produced by a Hall effect device placed in the magnetic circuit. Preferably, the Hall effect device controls the current in the solenoid by controlling its duty cycle; however, continuous control of the current may also be employed. Alternative embodiments are provided for a constant force actuator, an actuator whose force-displacement characteristic is altered, and an actuator in which the force may be selectively controlled. An embodiment is also provided for selectively controlling the position of the moving element based upon measured electric and magnetic parameters of the actuator.

TL;DR: In this article, a dual poppet low leak variable bleed solenoid valve with adjustable end cap disposed through the Solenoid is presented, and a valve shaft is slidably disposed through a soleneoid portion and extends longitudinally into a hydraulic portion.
Abstract: A dual poppet low leak variable bleed solenoid valve, including a solenoid portion with an adjustable end cap disposed through the solenoid. Exhaust ports are disposed about the end cap. A hydraulic portion has a valve housing that is connectable to the solenoid portion. The hydraulic portion has a control volume formed within, and a supply port is connected through the valve housing. A valve shaft is slidably disposed through the solenoid portion and extends longitudinally into the hydraulic portion. A first end of the valve shaft terminates in the solenoid portion forming a primary valve, and a second end of the valve shaft terminates in the hydraulic portion forming a secondary valve. The valve shaft further has a hollow channel disposed through the valve shaft to allow the passage of a fluid medium between the first end and second end of the valve shaft.

TL;DR: In this article, a lateral rotation therapy mattress system for a patient, including a plurality of side-by-side longitudinal air cells, is presented, where the air cells are divided into first and second groups, where decreasing the pressure of pressurized air in the second group will cause the patient to rotate in the direction of the first group.
Abstract: In a preferred embodiment, a lateral rotation therapy mattress system for a patient, including: a plurality of side-by-side longitudinal air cells, the air cells being divided into first and second side-by-side groups, wherein decreasing the pressure of pressurized air in the second group will cause the patient to rotate in the direction of the second group; and first and second pairs of solenoid valves connected to provide, respectively, the pressurized air to the first and second groups, wherein opening one of the solenoid valves in a the first and second pairs of solenoid valves will provide a desired low air pressure level and opening both of the solenoid valves in a the first and second pairs of solenoid valves will provide a desired high air pressure level, the low air pressure levels providing partial turn of the patient and the high pressure levels providing full turn of the patient.

TL;DR: In this article, a solenoid valve is disclosed, which includes an axial flow chamber and inlet and outlet housings secured to the Axial Flow Chamber, and the solenoids are further restrained by the inlet housing.
Abstract: A solenoid valve is disclosed which includes a solenoid assembly, an axial flow chamber and inlet and outlet housings secured to the axial flow chamber. The axial flow chamber comprises a generally cylindrically shaped inner portion and a cylindrically shaped outer portion spaced radially apart from the inner portion and connected to the inner portion by a web forming at least one passageway through the axial flow chamber. The solenoid assembly resides generally within the inner portion of the axial flow chamber and is further restrained by the inlet housing. The inlet and outlet housings are secured to the axial flow chamber.
