07 Jun 1976TL;DR: In this article, a fluid drive arrangement of a vehicle is shiftable to forward and reverse drive conditions when actuating fluid from an auxiliary source of pressurized fluid is directed to a hydraulic actuator device.
Abstract: A fluid drive arrangement of a vehicle is shiftable to forward and reverse drive conditions when actuating fluid from an auxiliary source of pressurized fluid is directed to a hydraulic actuator device of the fluid drive arrangement and is shifted to a neutral position automatically when the flow of actuating fluid to the hydraulic actuator device is blocked. A solenoid operated valve device is disposed between the auxiliary source of fluid and the hydraulic actuator device and has an energized fluid supplying position for directing actuating fluid to the hydraulic actuator device and a de-energized fluid blocking position for blocking pressurized fluid from the hydraulic actuator device. An electrical switch is disposed within a conductor line connecting a source of electrical energy to the solenoid operated valve device and has a closed position for completing an electrical circuit to energize the solenoid operated valve device and an open position for de-energizing the solenoid operated valve device. The electrical switch is disposed beneath an operator's seat of the vehicle in a position to be engaged by the seat and actuated to its closed position when the seat is moved to its lowered occupied position and is actuated to its open position when the seat is moved to its raised unoccupied position.

TL;DR: In this paper, a magnetostatic integral equation for the current induced by a solenoidal inductor in the conducting wall of a closed, perfectly conducting cylindrical shield was solved by the method of moments and point matching.
Abstract: A magnetostatic integral equation for the current induced by a solenoidal inductor in the conducting wall of a closed, perfectly conducting cylindrical shield was solved by the method of moments and point matching. The induced current was then used to determine the self-inductance of the solenoid. A chart of the ratio of the shielded inductance to that in free space was produced to aid in the design of practical air-core inductors. In addition, Wheeler's well-known formula for the free-space inductance of a single-layer solenoid was shown to be sufficiently accurate to serve as a basis for the design of practical coils if the effect of the shield, available from the chart, is included.

TL;DR: In this article, an explanation of the discrepancy between short sample tests and solenoid performance and prediction of the current carrying capacity of Nb-Zr solenoids are based on the mechanism of induced persistent-eddy currents.
Abstract: Explanation of the discrepancy between Nb -- Zr short sample tests and solenoid performance and prediction of the current carrying capacity of Nb -- Zr solenoids are based on the mechanism of induced persistent-eddy currents. Study of residual fields following reduction of magnetic field strength to zero leads to assumptions permitting calculations of circulating current magnitudes. Data are presented graphically, and generation of the same field using less material is found to result from spreading out layers or turns. (D.C.W.)

TL;DR: In this paper, a solenoid actuated valve for controlling the flow of exhaust gas recirculated to the induction pipe of an internal combustion engine, particularly of a motor vehicle, has a valve closure assembly which is spring biassed closed and opened when current is applied to a Solenoid device, and which is additionally loaded by a pressure balancing element, for example a diaphragm.
Abstract: A solenoid actuated valve for controlling the flow of exhaust gas recirculated to the induction pipe of an internal combustion engine, particularly of a motor vehicle, has a valve closure assembly which is spring biassed closed and opened when current is applied to a solenoid device (10) and which is additionally loaded by a pressure balancing element, for example a diaphragm (20), whose force effect is approximately equal, but in the opposite direction, to that caused by pressure differences across the valve when it is closed, that is when the plate (5) abuts with the valve seat (6) The pressure balancing element is located such that one side of it is exposed to the pressure upstream of the closure assembly and the other side is exposed either to the downstream pressure or to atmospheric pressure A valve guide (8) is supported in the valve housing (2) by way of a spherical bearing (33)
