TL;DR: In this paper, a hydraulic controller of an automatic transmission which releases the lockup clutch when it fails is presented, and a pattern which enables regular control of the automatic transmission in normal operation and does not allow the lock up clutch to change from its released state to its engaged state, is selected for use from among plural combinations of signal pressures of the solenoid valves.
Abstract: This invention provides a hydraulic controller of an automatic transmission which releases the lockup clutch when it fails. An output port of a solenoid valve is connected to a port of a lockup control valve and a port of a garage shift valve. An output port of a solenoid valve is connected to a port of the lockup control valve and a port of the garage shift valve. At least one of the solenoid valves is freely duty-controlled. A pattern, which enables regular control of the automatic transmission in normal operation and does not allow the lockup clutch to change from its released state to its engaged state, is selected for use from among plural combinations of signal pressures of the solenoid valves.

TL;DR: A slowly rotating separation chamber with an oscillating axial magnetic field gradient created by an alternating current solenoid superimposed on a steady radial gradient in a horizontal chamber is used as part of a flow-through multiunit colloidal magnetic affinity separation device including magnets.
Abstract: A slowly rotating separation chamber with an oscillating axial magnetic field gradient created by an alternating current solenoid superimposed on a steady radial gradient in a horizontal chamber is used as part of a flow-through multiunit colloidal magnetic affinity separation device including magnets. The field-gradient induced microscale particle motion, as well as particle resuspension by chamber rotation, significantly enhances particle-target contact without generating damaging shear forces. Chamber rotation also minimizes sedimentation of non-neutrally buoyant magnetic particles. The alternating current solenoid are a series of coils arranged along the axial flow direction, a single chamber is utilized as a flow-through multistage separation device, leading to a major increase in volume and reduced “down” times as compared to batch equipment.

TL;DR: The results show that the proposed modified open-loop controller improves significantly the steady-state accuracy of the plunger position and provides an alternative approach to design unconventional proportional valves.
Abstract: In this study, the sensorless control algorithm is applied to improve the position control accuracy of the output plunger of a switching solenoid. The main purpose of this study is the attempt to develop a fluid-technical proportional valve with simplest construction and lowest cost. Since the switching solenoid is not equipped with a position sensor and consequently no closed-loop control theory can be applied, the accuracy of the position control of the output plunger becomes a most critical question. Therefore, a modified open-loop controller using the sensorless control algorithm is proposed. The basic idea is the utilization of the sensorless control algorithm to estimate the steady-state position of the plunger. Then, this estimated position is fedback to the controller and the input current during the steady-state response is real-time adjusted according to the error signal. Finally, a series of experiments are carried out and the results show that the proposed modified open-loop controller improves significantly the steady-state accuracy of the plunger position and provides an alternative approach to design unconventional proportional valves.

TL;DR: A gas valve assembly includes a solenoid coil, a linearly actuated plunger, and a stop member as discussed by the authors, which is disposed in the coil so that a gap exists between the plunger and the stop member at a deenergized condition of the solenoids.
Abstract: A gas valve assembly includes a solenoid coil, a linearly actuated plunger, and a stop member. The plunger is disposed in the coil so that a gap exists between the plunger and the stop member at a deenergized condition of the solenoid. The assembly includes a valve having a port and a closing member. The closing member blocks the port in a closed position corresponding to the de-energized condition of the solenoid, and slidably unblocks the port in an open position corresponding to the energized condition of the solenoid. An adjustable length member is coupled to the closing member and the plunger and has a portion accessible external to the valve assembly. The externally-accessible portion of the adjustable length member is adjustable to vary the size of the gap between the plunger and the stop member when the closing member is in the closed position.
