07 Mar 1990TL;DR: A magnetic disk drive device for reading from or writing to a magnetic disk having an actuator assembly composed of a yoke plate, a stopper for restricting the range of rotation of the actuator, and a solenoid bracket housing an actuators locking mechanism is described in this paper.
Abstract: A magnetic disk drive device for reading from or writing to a magnetic disk having an actuator assembly composed of a yoke plate, an actuator housing magnetic heads, a stopper for restricting the range of rotation of the actuator, and a solenoid bracket housing an actuator locking mechanism, wherein the actuator assembly is assembled as a single unit for mounting to and removing from the disk drive device

TL;DR: This brief considers the control of solenoid valve actuators used for gas exchange in internal combustion engines and proposes a flatness-based design that incorporates voltage constraints, nonlinear magnetic effects, and various motion planning requirements.
Abstract: This brief considers the control of solenoid valve actuators used for gas exchange in internal combustion engines Although solenoid valves offer performance benefits over traditional camshaft-based valve systems, maintaining low impact velocity is a critical performance requirement Flatness provides a convenient framework for meeting a number of performance specifications on the valve's end motion The proposed control design incorporates voltage constraints, nonlinear magnetic effects, and various motion planning requirements A flat output acts as a design parameter and is parameterized with a spline basis A nonlinear feasibility problem is solved to obtain optimal spline coefficients such that performance requirements are met The resulting flat output provides an open-loop control which is augmented with feedback so that a linear stable tracking error system results The proposed control scheme is demonstrated in simulation and on an experimental testbed The performance of a proportional-integral controller is compared experimentally to the flatness-based method

TL;DR: In this paper, a high torque bidirectional stepping motor is presented, where the rotor and stator assemblies have pole pieces sandwiching annular permanent magnets and solenoid coils, respectively.
Abstract: The invention provides a high torque bidirectional stepping motor. Toothed rotor and stator assemblies having pole pieces sandwiching annular permanent magnets and solenoid coils, respectively, are disclosed. Pulsing means for activating the motor are also disclosed. Adjacent rotor assemblies are misaligned in disclosed fashion to provide fractional notch stepping in response to sequential control pulses from the pulsing means.

26 Mar 2009TL;DR: In this article, a proportional solenoid throttling valve is used to control the openings of a hybrid construction machine in response to pressure signals from the pressure sensors, which can achieve the minimization of the number of sensors.
Abstract: A controller of a hybrid construction machine which can achieve minimization of a required number of sensors is provided. A sub pump driven by output of an electric motor is connected to discharge sides of main pumps. Proportional solenoid throttling valves are provided in connection process between the sub pump and the main pumps for controlling a flow rate supplied from the sub pump to the main pump. A control unit is provided for electrically controlling the openings of the proportional solenoid throttling valves. Pressure sensors are connected to the control unit which controls the openings of the proportional solenoid throttling valves in response to pressure signals from the pressure sensors.

TL;DR: In this paper, a custom-designed magnet/cryostat system is described which has demonstrated remarkably improved field stability over previous designs, including the ability to determine a preliminary value of the proton atomic mass to an accuracy of 1.4 parts in 1010.
Abstract: A custom-designed magnet/cryostat system is described which has demonstrated remarkably improved field stability over previous designs. To shield from external magnetic noise, a custom-fabricated flux-gate device remotely senses the changes in magnetic field and cancels them out at the site of the magnet/cryostat via a 1.7-m-diam Helmholtz coil. To provide further shielding, the basic superconducting solenoid includes a passive flux-stabilizing coil. To stabilize internal field shifts, the temperature of the materials in the immediate vicinity of the solenoid (which have a temperature-dependent susceptibility) is stabilized via the new cryostat geometry and by controlling the pressure of the evaporating liquid helium to a few parts per million. As a result, the total system now has a composite shielding factor of approximately 104 and an overall temporal stability on the order of 17(2) parts in 1012 per hour. This instrument, the heart of our new Penning trap mass spectrometer, has recently been used to determine a preliminary value of the proton’s atomic mass to an accuracy of 1.4 parts in 1010. With the new magnet/cryostat system, this spectrometer now has a potential resolution which exceeds 2 parts in 1011 with 100 hours of data using a single carbon 4+ ion.
