TL;DR: Experimental results with simple photographic objects show that targets with different locations and orientations can be simultaneously recognized by the optical system.
Abstract: Presented in this paper is an optical implementation of a shift- and rotation-invariant pattern recognition technique. A computer-generated hologram is designed to match with one of the circular harmonic components of the target. Experimental results with simple photographic objects show that targets with different locations and orientations can be simultaneously recognized by the optical system.

TL;DR: In this paper, the use of a binary, magneto-optic spatial light modulator as an input device and as a spatial filter in a VanderLugt correlator is investigated.
Abstract: The use of a binary, magneto-optic spatial light modulator as an input device and as a spatial filter in a VanderLugt correlator is investigated. The statistics of the correlation that is obtained when the input image or the spatial filter is thresholded are estimated. Optical correlation using the magneto-optic device at the input and Fourier planes of a VanderLugt correlator is demonstrated experimentally.

TL;DR: Three spatial filtering projects using periodic structures are presented, one of which is to produce from one object many identical images, side by side.
Abstract: Three spatial filtering projects using periodic structures are presented. The aim of the first two methods is to produce from one object (or from a few identical objects, side by side) many identical images, side by side. In the third project irregularities of periodic objects are detected.

TL;DR: In this paper, a semiparametric spatial filtering approach is proposed that allows researchers to deal explicitly with spatially lagged autoregressive models and simultaneous autoregression spatial models.
Abstract: In the context of spatial regression analysis, several methods can be used to control for the statistical effects of spatial dependencies among observations. Maximum likelihood or Bayesian approaches account for spatial dependencies in a parametric framework, whereas recent spatial filtering approaches focus on nonparametrically removing spatial autocorrelation. In this paper we propose a semiparametric spatial filtering approach that allows researchers to deal explicitly with (a) spatially lagged autoregressive models and (b) simultaneous autoregressive spatial models. As in one non-parametric spatial filtering approach, a specific subset of eigenvectors from a transformed spatial link matrix is used to capture dependencies among the disturbances of a spatial regression model. However, the optimal subset in the proposed filtering model is identified more intuitively by an objective function that minimizes spatial autocorrelation rather than maximizes a model fit. The proposed objective function has the a...

TL;DR: In this paper, surface displacement can be measured by recording a double-exposure photograph of the laser-illuminated object, followed by optical processing of the recorded speckle-pattern image.
Abstract: Surface displacement can be measured by recording a double-exposure photograph of the laser-illuminated object, followed by optical processing of the recorded speckle-pattern image. The analysis can either be on a point-by-point basis, or by a spatial filtering technique which resolves the motion in any desired direction orthogonal to the line of sight. The limits within which the technique may be used to measure lateral translations and rotations of the surface are examined theoretically and experimentally, and the effect of lens aberrations and surface scattering properties are discussed. Surface tilt may also be measured by recording a defocused double exposure image and analysing its optical transform. The photographic techniques described can be extended to measuring surface vibration, by recording a single ‘time-averaged’ exposure and examining the modified optical transform fringe pattern.
