TL;DR: In this paper, a phase modulation spatial light modulator (SLM) characterization procedure is presented, based on the analysis of the interference fringes of a Mach - Zender interferometer arrangement, by means of correlation and Fourier transform methods.
Abstract: A new phase modulation spatial light modulator (SLM) characterization procedure is presented, based on the analysis of the interference fringes of a Mach - Zender interferometer arrangement, by means of correlation and Fourier transform methods. This, accompanied by an amplitude calibration technique that makes use of the same experimental set-up, gives a general measurement procedure for SLM full complex characterization. As an experimental application, two different operation curves of an Epson LCTV are determined, in order to use these configurations for an optical pattern recognition procedure: a phase-only high-efficient joint transform correlator.

TL;DR: In this paper, light recycling films comprising an array of parallel ridges and grooves that form prisms that selectively reflect or transmit light are used in displays that include spatial light modulators comprising a plurality of pixels.
Abstract: Various embodiments comprise light recycling films comprising an array of parallel ridges and grooves that form prisms that selectively reflect or transmit light. In some embodiments, the light recycling film may be used in displays that include spatial light modulators comprising a plurality of pixels. The light recycling film can limit the field-of-view of the display and enhance the luminance within that field-of-view. Various embodiments comprising multiple arrays of ridges and/or grooves can enhance uniformity of illumination of the pixels in the spatial light modulator and reduce Moire effects.

TL;DR: Comparisons of measured and predicted chemical classification score plots, as well as linear and non-linear discriminant analyses, demonstrate that this digital compressive detection strategy is Poisson photon noise limited and outperforms total least squares-based compression detection with analog filters.

30 Mar 2004TL;DR: In this paper, a digital projection apparatus for projection of a multicolor image uniformizes polychromatic light from a light source and provides magnification to the uniformized illumination beam using a base condenser relay, providing a reduced numerical aperture for conditioning at a dichroic separator.
Abstract: A digital projection apparatus (10) for projection of a multicolor image uniformizes polychromatic light from a light source (20) and provides magnification to the uniformized illumination beam using a base condenser relay (80), providing a reduced numerical aperture for conditioning at a dichroic separator (27). For each monochromatic component color provided from the dichroic separator (27), a reducing relay (82) then demagnifies the illumination beam to provide source illumination to a spatial light modulator (30) at an increased numerical aperture. The modulated beam from the spatial light modulator (30) is then magnified by a magnifying relay lens assembly (28) and directed, at a lower numerical aperture, to a dichroic combiner (26) and to a projection lens (32). As a result, the projection lens (32) has reduced working distance, color shading across the field is minimized, and brightness is optimized.

26 Apr 1995TL;DR: In this paper, a method of reducing artifacts in SLM-based display systems (10, 20), whose images are based on data displayed by bit-weight for pulse-width modulated intensity levels.
Abstract: A method of reducing artifacts in SLM-based display systems (10, 20), whose images are based on data displayed by bit-weight for pulse-width modulated intensity levels. The method can be used with a multiple spatial light modulators SLM system (20), which concurrently displays images of different colors, or with a single SLM system (10), which generates differently colored images sequentially during each frame period. For a multiple SLM system (20), the method is used with SLMs (14) that are memory-multiplexed, having "reset groups" that are loaded and displayed at different times. Corresponding rows of the SLM(s)s are associated with different reset groups.
