TL;DR: In this paper, an energy source, a spatial light modulator, and a control are combined to produce a pattern on the gemstone corresponding to the spatial light modulation pattern, which selectively impedes an etching process.
Abstract: A gemstone micro-inscription system, comprising an energy source, a spatial light modulator, and a control, the control controlling a spatial light pattern modulation of the spatial light modulator, wherein the spatial light modulator exposes a photoresist on the gemstone, which selectively impedes an etching process to produce a pattern on the gemstone corresponding to the spatial light modulation pattern.

TL;DR: The experimental result shows that the proposed method is capable of obtaining a corrected depth perception of the virtual information in augmented reality (AR) applications.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a novel method to construct an optical see-through light-field near-eye display (OST LF-NED) by using a discrete lenslet array (DLA). The DLA is used as a spatial light modulator (SLM) to generate dense light field of three-dimensional (3-D) scenes inside the user’s eyebox of the system and provide correct focus cues to the user. A corresponding light-field image rendering method is also proposed and demonstrated. The light emitted from the real objects passes through the transparent region of the display panel and the planar area of the DLA successively without redirection, so the user can have a clear view of the real scene as well as the virtual information. The stray light that may degrade the image quality has been analyzed in detail. The experimental result shows that the proposed method is capable of obtaining a corrected depth perception of the virtual information in augmented reality (AR) applications.

TL;DR: An efficient ISI model for volume hololgraphic storage channels (VHSC) is presented in which the frequency plane aperture, spatial light modulator and CCD fill factors, and SLM finite contrast ratio are considered as the main sources of ISI.
Abstract: Equalizer design typically requires careful modeling of the underlying storage channel. The aim of this paper is to present an efficient ISI model for volume hololgraphic storage channels (VHSC) in which we consider the frequency plane aperture, spatial light modulator (SLM) and CCD fill factors, and SLM finite contrast ratio as the main sources of ISI.

TL;DR: In this paper, a robotic vision, optical correlation system optically analyzes an input image (10) to provide identification and aspect information; the input image is incident upon a spatial light modulator (14), a multiple holographic lens (22) then performs a multiple number of Fourier transformations upon the image.
Abstract: A robotic vision, optical correlation system optically analyzes an input image (10) to provide identification and aspect information. The input image (10) is incident upon a spatial light modulator (14). A multiple holographic lens (22) then performs a multiple number of Fourier transformations upon the image (10). An array of matched filters (24) has the array of Fourier transforms incident thereon. Each matched filter (24) comprises a Fourier transform hologram of different aspect view of the object and passes an optical correlation signal indicative of the degree of correlation. The signal is then transformed by an inverse Fourier transform lens (26). A detector (28) then detects the signal. A processing circuit (30) compares the relative magnitudes of the signals to determine aspect information about the input image (10). The present invention includes a normalizing means (electronic (30) or optical) for each matched filter. This normalizing means operates on the basis of separate angular response curves for each matched filter.

TL;DR: The authors' experimental results show a trend that is in agreement with known theoretical expressions; however, the turbulence rescaling due to anisotropy shows some discrepancy with theory and requires more investigation.
Abstract: In this paper, we present a laboratory setup to simulate anisotropic, non-Kolmogorov turbulence. A sequence of numerical phase screens that incorporate the turbulence characteristics were applied to a spatial light modulator placed in the path of a laser beam with a Gaussian intensity profile and the resulting far-field intensity patterns were recorded by a CCD camera. The values of scintillation at the position of the maximum intensity were extracted from the images and compared with theoretical values. Our experimental results show a trend that is in agreement with known theoretical expressions; however, the turbulence rescaling due to anisotropy shows some discrepancy with theory and requires more investigation.
