TL;DR: In this paper, an autostereoscopic display with an illumination source for producing light of a first polarization and a second polarization different from the first polarization was presented. But the illumination source was not used for the transmission of the light of the second polarization.
Abstract: An autostereoscopic display of the invention includes: an illumination source for producing light of a first polarization and light of a second polarization different from the first polarization; a spatial light modulator for modulating the light of the first polarization and the light of the second polarization from the illumination source; and an optical system for directing the light of the first polarization to a first viewing region and the light of the second polarization to a second viewing region, wherein the spatial light modulator includes: a first polarization adjusting member for transmitting the light of the first polarization and substantially preventing transmission of the light of the second polarization; a second polarization adjusting member for transmitting the light of the second polarization and substantially preventing transmission of the light of the first polarization; and first and second groups of picture elements optically aligned with the first and second polarization adjusting member, respectively.

TL;DR: In this article, a tunable optical wavelength selective filter comprises a dynamic holographic diffraction element (3) in combination with a fixed diffraction grating or hologram (2).
Abstract: A tunable optical wavelength selective filter comprises a dynamic holographic diffraction element (3) in combination with a fixed diffraction grating or hologram (2). The dynamic diffraction element (3) is preferably implemented as an electronically controlled image displayed on a pixelated spatial light modulator and in particular a spatial light modulating using opto-electronic integrated circuits fabricated using silicon VLSI technology and integrated with ferro-electric liquid crystals. Amongst other uses, the filter can be implemented to form a digitally tunable laser.

TL;DR: This work experimentally demonstrates selective mode excitation using a Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) spatial light modulator configured to as phase and amplitude modulator and theoretically compares phase-only spatial light modulation to a combination of amplitude and phase spatialLight modulation.
Abstract: Spatial light modulation can be used to address specific fiber modes, as required in mode-division multiplexed systems. We theoretically compare phase-only spatial light modulation to a combination of amplitude and phase spatial light modulation in terms of insertion loss and crosstalk for a fiber supporting 11 LP modes. We experimentally demonstrate selective mode excitation using a Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) spatial light modulator configured to as phase and amplitude modulator.

TL;DR: In this paper, a dual-flexure pixel design is proposed to maintain well-defined diffraction nodes at or near the projection aperture edges over the full modulation range, achieving high image contrast.
Abstract: A spatial light modulator pixel includes a flexible reflective surface that is electrostatically actuated to control the surface shape and thereby phase-modulate reflected light. The reflected light is filtered by a projection aperture, wherein the phase modulation controls the amount of light from the pixel that is filtered through the aperture. The spatial light modulator includes and array of such pixels, which are imaged onto a conjugate image plane, and each pixel controls the image brightness at a corresponding conjugate image point. High image contrast is achieved by using a dual-flexure pixel design in which two flexure elements operate conjunctively to maintain well-defined diffraction nodes at or near the projection aperture edges over the full modulation range.

TL;DR: Modulation at video frame rates has been achieved, providing real-time displays in coherent light, which may be useful for a variety of optical processing and computing applications.
Abstract: Some of the optical characteristics of a recently developed solid-state deformable-mirror spatial light modulator have been investigated. The device is composed of an array of 128 × 128 pixels, with each pixel consisting of four hinged reflective rectangular surfaces. Modulation at video frame rates has been achieved, providing real-time displays in coherent light, which may be useful for a variety of optical processing and computing applications.
