TL;DR: In this paper, a first-order and higher-order profile is generated from detection signals from the detector respectively within a different specified range of wavelengths within a specified angular relationship between them such that fluorescent x-rays from a sample are scanned.
Abstract: A fluorescent x-ray analyzer has a light-dispersing crystal and a detector which are rotatable while maintaining a specified angular relationship between them such that fluorescent x-rays from a sample are scanned. A first-order profile and a higher-order profile showing x-ray intensities against scan angle are produced from detection signals from the detector respectively within a different specified range of wavelengths. Data related to ratios between preliminarily measured peak intensities of diffracted beams of first-order and higher-order obtained from a plurality of elements are stored and used to identify peaks in these profiles, if there is a possibility of a peak formed by a first-order spectrum of one element and a higher-order spectrum of another element overlapping each other and the nature and extent of contributions to the peaks in the profiles from the first-order and higher-order spectra are determined.

TL;DR: In this paper, a set of gratings engraved in a Spectral Hole Burning (SHB) crystal is used to filter one sideband of the optically carried microwave signal.
Abstract: Spectral hole-burning (SHB) technology is considered for >10‐GHz instantaneous bandwidth signal-processing applications. In this context we report on what is believed to be the first demonstration of a SHB microwave spectrometer. A set of gratings engraved in a SHB crystal is used to filter one sideband of the optically carried microwave signal. The setup is confined to narrow-bandwidth operation, over a 35-MHz-wide interval. The first findings confirm the validity of the architecture in terms of spectral resolution, angular channel separation, and simultaneous detection of multiple spectral lines.

TL;DR: In this article, a gaz analyzer comprising a sample cell containing a gas mixture to be analyzed, a source (11) for producing and directing infrared energy through the sample cell, a rotary filter wheel (17) having at least one filter thereon for passing infrared energy limited to a wavelength band within the characteristic absorption band of a predetermined gas and having a dark level region substantially opaque to infrared energy, a drive (19, 20) for supporting and rotating the filter wheel to successively interpose the filter and the dark-level region between the source and the sample
Abstract: A gaz analyzer comprising a sample cell (21) for containing a gas mixture to be analyzed, a source (11) for producing and directing infrared energy through the sample cell, a rotary filter wheel (17) having at least one filter thereon for passing infrared energy limited to a wavelength band within the characteristic absorption band of a predetermined gas and having a dark level region substantially opaque to infrared energy, a drive (19, 20) for supporting and rotating the filter wheel to successively interpose the filter and the dark level region between the source and the sample cell in the path (13) of the infrared energy directed by the source, a detector (15) for detecting infrared energy passing through the sample cell and producing an electrical signal representative thereof, and a signal processor (24) connected to the detector means for producing an output indicating the concentration of the predetermined gas in the sample cell by comparing the electrical signals produced by the detector with the filter positioned in the infrared energy path and with the dark level region positioned in the infrared energy path. The dark level region has a substantially fully reflective surface oriented toward the sample cell (21) when positioned in the infrared energy path whereby infrared energy impinging thereon is reflected.

TL;DR: In this paper, a passive non-invasive temperature measurement of the interior of a body is accomplished by using the acoustic thermal noise spectra of the body, where one or more acoustic transducers are coupled with the surface of body to intercept the acoustical noise signal from within the interior, along well defined paths to generate a corresponding electrical signal.
Abstract: Passive non-invasive temperature measurement of the interior of a body is accomplished by using the acoustic thermal noise spectra of the body. One or more acoustic transducers are coupled with the surface of the body to intercept the acoustical noise signal from within the interior of the body along well defined paths to generate a corresponding electrical signal. The noise power spectrum of the electrical signal is analyzed by means of a power spectrum analyzer to develop an output representing the temperature-depth distribution along said paths. The output of the power spectrum analyzer may be displayed and/or recorded or subjected to further signal processing.
