TL;DR: A new power-splitting scheme in two-dimensional photonic crystals that can be applicable to photonic integrated circuits is proposed, utilizing coupling between guided modes supported by line-defect waveguides.
Abstract: We propose a new power-splitting scheme in two-dimensional photonic crystals that can be applicable to photonic integrated circuits. The proposed power-splitting mechanism is analogous to that of conventional three-waveguide directional couplers, utilizing coupling between guided modes supported by line-defect waveguides. Through the analysis of dispersion curve and field patterns of modes, the position in propagation direction, where an input field is split into a two-folded image, is determined by simple mode analysis. Based on the calculated position, a photonic crystal power-splitter is designed and verified by finite-difference time-domain computation

Abstract: We have realized a quantum optics like Hanbury Brown--Twiss (HBT) experiment by partitioning, on an electronic beam splitter, single elementary electronic excitations produced one by one by an on-demand emitter. We show that the measurement of the output currents correlations in the HBT geometry provides a direct counting, at the single charge level, of the elementary excitations (electron-hole pairs) generated by the emitter at each cycle. We observe the antibunching of low energy excitations emitted by the source with thermal excitations of the Fermi sea already present in the input leads of the splitter, which suppresses their contribution to the partition noise. This effect is used to probe the energy distribution of the emitted wave packets.

TL;DR: Results from three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain modeling with no adjustable parameters are found to be in excellent agreement with the experimental results.
Abstract: A photonic crystal waveguide splitter that exhibits ultralow-loss 3-dB splitting for TE-polarized light is fabricated in silicon-on-insulator material by use of deep UV lithography. The high performance is achieved by use of a Y junction, which is designed to ensure single-mode operation, and low-loss 60 degrees bends. Zero-loss 3-dB output is experimentally obtained in the range 1560-1585 nm. Results from three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain modeling with no adjustable parameters are found to be in excellent agreement with the experimental results.

TL;DR: A plasmonic splitter based on slot cavity is proposed and numerically investigated using finite-difference-time-domain (FDTD) methods and flexible output power ratio is feasible through further adjusting the coupling distance and the refractive index of output waveguides.
Abstract: A plasmonic splitter based on slot cavity is proposed and numerically investigated using finite-difference-time-domain (FDTD) methods. The structure consists of the input waveguide, a slot cavity and output waveguides. By varying positions of output waveguides, frequency splitter and power splitter can be achieved in the proposed structure. Flexible output power ratio is feasible through further adjusting the coupling distance and the refractive index of output waveguides.

TL;DR: In this article, an analog surface wave multi-point repeater includes a first launcher configured to transmit and receive first guided electromagnetic waves that propagate on an outer surface of a first segment of a transmission medium without requiring an electrical return path.
Abstract: In accordance with one or more embodiments, an analog surface wave multi-point repeater includes a first launcher configured to transmit and receive first guided electromagnetic waves that propagate on an outer surface of a first segment of a transmission medium without requiring an electrical return path. A transceiver includes a splitter coupled to a second launcher and the third launcher and a low noise amplifier configured to receive a second microwave signal from the second launcher and the third launcher via the splitter. A directional coupler is configured to couple the second microwave signal from the second launcher and the first microwave signal to the splitter to facilitate transmission of the second guided electromagnetic waves by the second launcher on the second segment of the transmission medium and to further facilitate transmission of the third guided electromagnetic waves by the third launcher on the third segment of the transmission medium.
