TL;DR: A multi-point laser welding installation for vehicle bodies includes apparatus for positioning the pieces to be welded, apparatus for gripping the pieces and apparatus for welding the positioned and gripped pieces at specific points.
Abstract: A multi-point laser welding installation for vehicle bodies includes apparatus for positioning the pieces to be welded, apparatus for gripping the pieces and apparatus for welding the positioned and gripped pieces at specific points. The apparatus for positioning and gripping are provided with bearing surfaces. The shape of these surfaces conforms to the shape of the pieces. The apparatus for positioning and gripping include cavity which open the pieces at right angles. The welding apparatus is fixed on the positioning and/or gripping apparatus in order to ensure spot welding of the pieces at right angles to the cavities.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of process parameters (arc intensity, welding duration and applied load) are pointed out by considering the physical characteristics of the weld joints, and the analysis of the coupled effects by considering 3D characteristic maps permitted to conclude on a small interaction between arc current and welding duration whereas the applied load was the control factor.

TL;DR: In this article, a cold-rolled 0.1C5Mn steel with a ferrite matrix plus metastable austenite duplex microstructure was resistance spot-welded with various welding currents and times.
Abstract: The medium Mn steels are gaining increasing attention due to their excellent combination of mechanical properties and material cost. A cold-rolled 0.1C5Mn medium Mn steel with a ferrite matrix plus metastable austenite duplex microstructure was resistance spot-welded with various welding currents and times. The nugget size rose with the increase of heat input, but when the welding current exceeded the critical value, the tensile-shear load increased slowly and became unstable due to metal expulsion. The fusion zone exhibited a lath martensite microstructure, and the heat-affected zone was composed of a ferrite/martensite matrix with retained austenite. The volume fraction of retained austenite decreased gradually from the base metal to the fusion zone, while the microhardness presented a reverse varying trend. Interfacial failure occurred along the interface of the steel sheets with lower loading capacity. Sufficient heat input along with serious expulsion brought about high stress concentration around the weld nugget, and the joint failed in partial interfacial mode. Pull-out failure was absent in this study.

TL;DR: In this article, a concave part 14 on a surface of the first electrode 13 contacts with the metal member 1 with low melting point, and the metal members 1, 2 with different melting points are held between a pair of the electrodes 4, 13.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a spot welding method of high quality by preventing the formation of burrs due to intermediate dispersion. SOLUTION: In a spot welding method, plural metal members 1, 2 with different melting points are overlapped, nipped between a pair of electrodes comprising the first electrode 13 and the second electrode 4, pressurized, and energized, so as to be joined. A concave part 14 on a surface of the first electrode 13 contacts with the metal member 1 with low melting point, and the metal members 1, 2 with different melting points are held between a pair of the electrodes 4, 13. Under such a condition, pressure and current are applied to the metal members for joining.
