Abstract: In this article, the reactive absorption of SO 2 by seawater is studied in a spray tower experimentally and mathematically. The liquid film formation on the tower wall is implemented in the model and measured experimentally at different operating conditions. The effect of liquid to gas flow rate, initial SO 2 concentration in gas phase and initial gas temperature on SO 2 removal efficiency is examined. Regarding the importance of liquid droplets hydrodynamics and its effect on the performance of the equipment, the required differential equations for predicting the trajectory and local velocity of droplets are also developed based on the nozzle and spray characteristics and solved simultaneously with other governing equations. In order to survey the effect of nozzle type on removal efficiency, two different types of nozzles are examined. Semi-empirical correlations are proposed for two different nozzles by using experimental data and droplets hydrodynamics model, to predict the amount and the variation of liquid film mass flow rate on the spray tower wall. Results indicate that neglecting the liquid film formation leads to an average of 23% error in predicting the removal efficiency when nozzle type 1 is used, while the calculated error of model by considering the film formation is reduced to 4%. By implementation of droplets hydrodynamics model and applying a modified thermodynamics model for predicting the behavior of the existing chemical reactions, the capability of the spray tower model in predicting the SO 2 removal efficiency is enhanced.

Abstract: Spray towers allow for controlling air pollution in which a liquid is sprayed in small droplets to produce a large interfacial area for mass transfer between a gas and a liquid phase. An experimental study of a spray tower for removing SO2 is described. The experiments were carried out under different operating conditions by varying the gas velocity, liquid flow rate, and SO2 concentration. SO2 removal efficiency, volumetric mass transfer coefficient, and liquid-film formation as a result of the collision of droplets against the tower wall are investigated. Removal efficiency and volumetric mass transfer coefficient are analyzed as a function of gas velocity, liquid flow rate, and SO2 concentration, while liquid-film formation is evaluated as a function of tower height. The results indicate high removal efficiency. Correlations to predict the volumetric mass transfer coefficient are also proposed.

Abstract: BACKGROUND Wet flue gas desulfurization combined with ozone is a promising technology which could remove NOx effectively. However, there are few reports focusing on simulations of the absorption process of NO2 in a spray tower. A computational fluid dynamics model including chemical absorption was developed to simulate the absorption process of NO2. Simulations of different cases were executed to explore the influences of operating conditions. RESULTS The errors between predicted and experimental values were less than 5% under different operating conditions and the model had depicted the tendency very well. For instance, an increase in L/G from 11 to 16 resulted in the growth of η from 90.9% to 96.3%. When the solution concentration raised from 0.025 mol L−1 to 0.0875 mol L−1 could result in an increase of η from 89.1% to 98.6%. CONCLUSION The model developed in the present work was effective in determining the operating parameters of the spray tower for NO2 absorption, which could be utilized for the design and optimization of industrial apparatus. Moreover, the model can also evaluate the best positions of the spraying nozzles, the distance between the spray levels and other parameters for industrial application. © 2015 Society of Chemical Industry

The purification unit is high in waste gas purification efficiency, good in effect and capable of conducting self-decompression protection so that the purification unit can be adapted to industrial waste gas purification under different air pressure states.

Abstract: We did an experimental study on ammonia absorption in a spray tower. The kinetic characteristics of droplets were investigated by considering the forces acting on a droplet. The gas-phase mass transfer coefficient was deduced with the Colburn analogy method. A simplified model for predicting NH3 capture with a spray tower has been presented based on mass transfer and ionic equilibrium, which was successfully validated against experimental data. The influences and the sensitivity analysis of main operating parameters on the absorption efficiency were analyzed. As the most sensitive parameter, the mean droplet diameter was obtained by fitting experimental data with an empirical correlation. The distributions of two typical process parameters along the absorber were also simulated. Decreasing the pH value of absorbent is an effective but restrictive way to strengthen the mass transfer rate on account of insufficient liquid-side resistance.

The heating water tank is arranged at the upper end of the interior of the boiler body. The lower end of the heating water tank is arranged on the combustion chamber. A blast chamber is arranged at the lower end of the combustion chamber. The boiler body is connected with the cyclone dust removal device through a smoke exhaust pipe. The cyclone dust removal device is connected with the spray tower through a connection pipe. An air outlet pipe is arranged at the upper end of the spray tower. A demister, a spray device, a stainless steel filter net layer, an active carbon filter net layer and an alkaline water pool are arranged in the spray tower from top to bottom. By means of the energy-saving and environment-friendly boiler, waste gas generated during combustion of the boiler can be effectively used for secondarily heating water in the heating water tank; moreover, a smoke purification device is arranged and can effectively purify harmful matter in smoke, and the purposes of saving energy and protecting the environment are achieved; the energy-saving and environment-friendly boiler has high social significance and economic value.

The method comprises the following steps that firstly, the waste gas enters a first spray tower from the bottom and collides with alkaline spray liquid sprayed from top to bottom; acidic ingredients are neutralized to form salt; dust is caught and is discharged out from the bottom; the waste gas is exhausted from the top; the waste gas enters a second spray tower; soluble ingredients in the waste gas are dissolved to form a dissolving solution to be discharged out from the bottom; ozone is introduced into the waste gas exhausted from the top; under the effect of a nano rare-earth composite catalyst loaded with Pd elements, the ozone and moisture in the waste gas take a reaction; generated O2 and hydroxyl radicals take an oxidation reduction with the waste gas to generate CO2 and H2O; the waste gas treatment is completed. The treatment method has the advantages that the heating is not needed, and the treatment can be performed at normal temperature, so that the required cost is lower, and the method can be suitable for being used for large-scale pharmaceutical VOCs waste gas dealing.

The biofilter odor treatment device is characterized by comprising a spray tower, a biofilter, an anaerobic reaction tank, an aerobic reaction tank, a dissolved gas floating mechanism, a cooling tower and a water storage tank, wherein odor to be treated is fed into the spay tower through a gas inlet tube; water in the water storage tank is fed into the spray tower through a water inlet tube; the treated odor is discharged into the biofilter from the top of the spray tower; liquids discharged from the biofilter and the spray tower are fed into the anaerobic reaction tank and the aerobic reaction tank for biochemical treatment sequentially; water discharged out from the aerobic reaction tank is subjected to solid-liquid separation in the dissolved gas floating mechanism, and the water is fed into the water storage tank. Compared with the prior art, the biofilter odor treatment device is capable of effectively removing odor substances in a gas and reducing damage to human bodies and the environment, and has remarkable advantages of being high in treatment efficiency, stable and reliable to operate, free of secondary pollution discharge, and the like.

The simulation system and method aim at solving the problems that the accuracy of a CFD numerical simulation result of flow fields in a wet desulphurization spray tower is poor due to the influences of the factors of model selection, boundary condition settings, grid discretization and the like. The accuracy of the numerical simulation result and the design feasibility of the wet desulphurization spray tower are verified through a physical model test, and the simulation system can carry out verification aiming at other theoretical simulation or initial design. The physical model test serves as a basis for verifying the accuracy of the numerical simulation result and the design feasibility of the wet desulphurization spray tower, and whether the internal structure of the spray tower is reliable or not is determined through the physical model test of the flow fields. The invention further provides the simulation method for the wet desulphurization flow fields. Distribution of the flow fields in the spray tower can be simulated, and then the numerical simulation result of the wet desulphurization spray tower is verified, and the structural design of the real wet desulphurization spray tower is optimized.
