Abstract: This chapter discusses different design approaches for process control of spray dryer operation. It presents static methods for open-loop control of spray drying process. Spray drying is one of the major convective drying technologies for the removal of liquid from a suspension or solution. The solution or suspension is sprayed by one or several nozzles, arranged in an array, into the spray tower, usually from the top, but there are also designs whereby the spray is introduced from the bottom or from the sides of the tower. Due to the industrial importance, process modelling of spray dryer operation is an active field of research and development, having led to models of varying degrees of complexity. The chapter also presents the applications of open-loop control and open-loop optimization and discusses the feedback and optimal control. It then provides some examples of the use of artificial neural network (ANN) for open-loop control and optimisation of spray drying operation.

Abstract: The invention relates to a system for treating tail gas of an aluminum smelting furnace. The system comprises a bag-type dust collector used for removing large-particle-size dust impurities in the tail gas and a spray tower used for removing small-medium-particle-size dust impurities and harmful gas components in the tail gas, wherein the bag-type dust collector and the spray tower are arranged in sequence. An atomizer used for spraying spray liquid is arranged at the top of the spray tower, a tail gas distributor is arranged on the spray tower, and the tail gas flows in the spray tower in a spiral mode. The system for treating the tail gas of the aluminum smelting furnace can conduct effective treatment on the tail gas of the aluminum smelting furnace and avoid environment pollution caused by tail gas emission.

Abstract: To prepare sodium tripolyphosphate, a sodium orthophosphate solution having an Na2O:P2O5 ratio of about 5:3, which additionally contains a compound yielding potassium ions, is introduced into the upper section of a spray tower and the sodium orthophosphate solution is sprayed into this by means of at least one nozzle through a flame zone produced by several burners arranged in a circle. The dry alkali metal tripolyphosphate is collected in the lower section of the spray tower.

The alkali liquor spray tower comprises a vertical cylindrical tower body, the top of the tower is provided with a liquid distributer, the liquid distributer comprises a centrifuging cylinder and a funnel, a supporting seat is arranged in the tower body and just below the funnel, at least two processing units are stacked on the supporting seat, every processing unit comprises a ventilating cylinder, a water receiving ring groove and a plurality of guiding tubes, the water receiving groove is concentrically fixed on the outer wall of the ventilating cylinder, two ends of the guiding tubes are respectively connected to the water receiving ring groove and the sidewall of the middle part of the ventilating cylinder, and the bottom edge of the ventilating cylinder is provided with liquid discharging holes; the supporting seat is provided with a ventilating opening, a wind inlet channel is arranged in the supporting seat, the ventilating opening communicates with the ventilating cylinder, and the lower part of the tower body is provided with a wind inlet and a wind outlet; and an alkali liquor tank and a water pump are arranged in the tower body below the supporting seat, and the inlet end of the water pump communicates with the alkali liquor tank. The alkali liquor spray tower improves the gas and alkali liquor contact probability and improves the purifying treatment efficiency during the treatment of leaching exhaust gas.
