TL;DR: In this paper, a composite ring made of press-fitted parts and a method of assembling concentric articles having an interference fit, the inner one of which has a surface of a granular material such as ceramic, was described.
Abstract: The invention disclosed is a composite ring made of press-fitted parts and method of assembling concentric articles having an interference fit, the inner one of which has a surface of a granular material such as ceramic, the method eliminating the customary heat shrinking step by which the outer one, usually of metal, is heated and expanded over the inner one and then cooled to shrink it tightly over the inner one. According to the method disclosed, the ceramic surface is coated with a polyetetrafluoroethylene lubricant and then pressed into the outer one without the use of heat. A mating ring for rotary mechanical end face seals, wherein the mating ring is formed of a ceramic ring pressed into a metal supporting stamping, is also disclosed.

TL;DR: In this paper, a stamping press is guarded by a barrier movable between an open position permitting operator access to the point of stamping operation and a closed position barring such access.
Abstract: A stamping press system, the press having a ram, a driving means for the ram, and an electrically energizable ram control device for causing the driving means to drive the ram through a stamping cycle. The press is guarded by a barrier movable between an open position permitting operator access to the point of stamping operation and a closed position barring such access. A press trip control for the system has a pair of actuators, one for each hand of the operator. Upon their concurrent actuation, the actuators cause movement of the barrier to the closed position and energization of the ram control device initiating a stamping cycle. Provision is included for preventing such energization thereby preventing a stamping cycle if the barrier is not closed. Circuitry of the system prevents re-energization of the ram control device, thus preventing a further cycle until the operator has removed both hands from the actuators.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the material properties which can be achieved in stampable nylon-6 sheets as compared to corresponding injection molded compositions, and the prime differences in composition between glass fiber reinforced stampable sheets and reinforced injection molded parts is the length and distribution of the glass fiber reinforcement utilized in each process.
Abstract: Glass fiber reinforced thermoplastics have been utilized for many years in automotive and other high-performance applications. One of the newest processing methods for these materials is “stamping”, a process in which a reinforced thermoplastics sheet is heated and rapidly formed into a shaped object between matched metal dies. Advantages of products produced by this method include the following: parts consolidation, excellent strength, low cycle times even for very large objects, low finishing and tooling costs, and utilization of existing metal forming equipment. An extremely broad range of physical properties can be provided by tailoring both composition and construction of the composite sheets to the end-use requirements. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the material properties which can be achieved in stampable nylon-6 sheets as compared to corresponding injection molded compositions. The prime differences in composition between glass fiber reinforced stampable sheets and reinforced injection molded parts is the length and distribution of the glass fiber reinforcement utilized in each process. After injection molding, glass fibers are on the order of 0.015 to 0.030 in. in length, while after stamping the fibers may be of infinite length. This difference in length, in combination with the uniform fiber distribution obtained during stamping, leads to important improvements in heat and impact resistance and uniformity of properties.

TL;DR: In this paper, the electron beam pulses produce marks by local material evaporation in a raster pattern which can have any desired magnification factor, and can be applied as the last operation so that the marking depth is not reduced by grinding etc.
Abstract: Alphanumeric symbols are marked for identification purposes on tools or wearing surfaces of structural elements by an electron beam which is guided across the workpiece surface by a programmable process computer. The electron beam pulses produce marks by local material evaporation in a raster pattern which can have any desired magnification factor. The system is not limited to unhardened metal surfaces like the stamping operation. It produces durable marks in hardened surfaces without causing any a symmetrical surface stresses. It can be applied as the last operation so that the marking depth is not reduced by grinding etc.

Abstract: Large metal corrugated elements are formed with high accuracy by simultaneous bend stamping of all curvature. The workpieces to be shaped are bent, using variable and regulatable stretch drawing and stretch bending forces such that simultaneously there is obtained a permanent shape change of the workpiece over its whole surface, esp. at the sections of the workpiece which have the curvatures over the extension limits of the material. Preferably a variable stretch drawing force is produced during bending stamping, with the aid of a controllable friction between the surface of the deformed workpiece and the adjustable tool parts of the deformer.

TL;DR: A positioning device for moving a punching tool to a prescribed location in a stamping machine contng. as discussed by the authors... is a positioning device that allows program-controlled blanking, e.g. where the position of the tool and also the location of the sheet is numerically controlled.
Abstract: A positioning device is for moving a punching tool to a prescribed location in a stamping machine contng. a store of punching tools and a stored program-controlled selection network for moving the tool into the desired position. Equi-angular location stops are used to position the pointed wedge punch w.r.t. its holder and the ratio, or the reciprocal ratio, of the constant angular distance between two adjacent stops and the wedge angle of the punching tool is a whole number. A revolving head is pref. used as the store of punches, i.e. the head can be rotated through 360 degrees so a punch can be located in the desired position above a workpiece. The device allows program-controlled blanking, e.g. of sheet where the position of the tool and also the location of the sheet is numerically controlled.

Abstract: The deformation of wires or similar workpieces is for stamping saw-toothed all steel wires, with radially guided, periodically acting tools. The workpiece, which is passed by a stamping- or notching blade, is held for a short time according to the pitch of the required profile, e.g. the toothing. After engagement of the stamping blade, the workpiece is then further transported by the amount of pitch or feed. The feed amount is carried out in an interval less than the notching interval between two subsequent continuously rotating stamping blades.

Abstract: A system for connecting the electrodes of integrated circuit modules using tongue contact strips made to the pattern of the layout. A relatively thick metal stamping is etched near the ends of the proposed joints leaving thin elasticised easily deformable strips which are later bonded with the electrodes of the semiconductor elements. The contact stamping is prepared by using a first masking technique reducing the sections of the proposed joints to thin membranes. A second masking process is then applied to these sections to produce shapes complementary to the electrode surfaces. After preparation the surface to be bonded is coated with a gold layer.

TL;DR: In this article, the actuating mechanism comprises an actuating lever pivoted on the body of the device which accommodates the piezo-electric crystal assembly, and a cam rotates through a small angle between a fixed abutment and a relatively fixed head or pressure pad of the crystal assembly.
Abstract: In a piezo-electric manually-operated spark generating device the actuating mechanism comprises an actuating lever pivoted on the body of the device which accommodates the piezo-electric crystal assembly. It is arranged that in response to pivotal movement of the lever a cam rotates through a small angle between a fixed abutment and a relatively fixed head or pressure pad of the crystal assembly to exert high pressure on the crystal assembly for the generation of sparks. The cam is formed with precision by blanking or stamping from sheet metal so that it does not need to be subsequently machined as in the case of prior cam construction which would increase the cost of the cam. The stamping out or blanking of the cam from sheet metal also enables a roll pin to be formed integrally with the cam instead of being a separate member which is received by a hole in the cam.

TL;DR: In this paper, the inner rotor and stator laminations are separated from the outer rotor stamping by one of several methods: a mechanical catch which can be swung out of the way when not required, or a jet of compressed air may be used to retain the stamping.
Abstract: Rotor and stator laminations are stamped from a single sheet, as in 1602574. After the stamping process the inner rotor stamping is separated from the outer rotor stamping by one of several methods. The stamping support plate may have a spigot with a diameter only slightly less than the stator stamping inside diameter. The stator stamping may be retained by a magnet under the support plate. A jet of compressed air may be used to retain the stamping. A mechanical catch which can be swung out of the way when not required, may retain the stamping.
