TL;DR: In this article, a line pattern of a photoresist film on the die face corresponding to the contour of the desired pattern was used to sharpen the edge into a knife edge.
Abstract: The invention provides a novel method for manufacturing a knife-edge die for stamping out a metal foil on an insulating base plate such as in the preparation of an electronic circuit board by a technique of photoetching. The method comprises a line pattern of a photoresist film on the die face corresponding to the contour of the desired pattern, subjecting the die face to a first etching to effect substantial side etching behind the photoresist film to leave an edge, removing the photoresist film and subjecting the die face to a second etching to sharpen the edge into a knife edge. The invention further proposes several improvements in the knife-edge die manufactured in the same principle of the method as above such as the adjustment of the depth of the inside recess surrounded by the knife edge with a filling material and knife-edge dies suitable for continuous stamping out provided with one or more of flat-headed presser dies for the preliminary bonding of the metal foil to the base plate prior to stamping out with the knife edge and one or more limiter dies provided on one or both sides of the knife edge in order to prevent unduly deep incision of the knife edge to the base plate.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose to use a pair of corrugated-faced dies into opposed anvil members to reduce longitudinal movement of material during swaging and improve dimensional tolerances.
Abstract: Press-fit electrical terminals such as press-fit pins for insertion into plated through holes of circuit boards. Such pins have a generally H-shaped press-fit zone formed by a central web 2 indented with a series of transverse corrugations 4 interconnecting four perpendicularly extending compliant fins 10, 10', 12,12'. Preferably the terminals are formed by stamping from sheet material with a plurality of such pins remaining interconnected to a carrier strip until after mass insertion into plated through holes. Stamping with a pair of corrugated-faced dies into opposed anvil members reduces longitudinal movement of material during swaging and improves dimensional tolerances. The corrugations on the central web reduce flexing of the pin after installation in the plated through hole. Preferably, the terminals include a slug of solder held on at least a portion of each of the opposed faces of the central web.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for making a stamping master for video disk replication is described, where a film (18) of material which is reversibly convertible between two stable states, one having a high electrical conductivity and the other having a low electrical conductivities, is deposited on a substrate (20) while in one of the states.
Abstract: There is disclosed a new and improved method for making a stamping master for video disk replication wherein a film (18) of material which is reversibly convertible between two stable states, one having a high electrical conductivity and the other having a low electrical conductivity, is deposited on a substrate (20) while in one of the states. The material (18) is then imaged with information in coded form by converting selected areas (52) of the film (18) to the other state in a predetermined pattern corresponding to the coded information. The conversion can be accomplished by light, electromagnetic energy or heat. At this stage, an intermediate subassembly (56), composed of the imaged film (18) on the substrate (20), is formed which can be read for accuracy by detecting the state of the selectively converted areas (52) with respect to the rest of the film (18). Corrections can be made by converting the state of selected areas (52) of the film (18) as required. A metal (58), such as nickel, is then electroplated onto the areas of the film (18) which are in the high conductivity state. The plating is continued until the nickel spans the areas (52) of the film on which it did not directly plate. In this way a continuous backing layer which is integral with the plated nickel is formed. The nickel is then separated from the imaged material to provide a first stamping master (60) which is used to form a second stamping master (62) of opposite polarity to the first, preferably by a similar plating onto the first master. The second stamping master (62) is used directly for video disk replication.
