TL;DR: In this article, an experimental procedure developed to estimate the thermal conductance at the part-tool interface during a hot stamping procedure is presented, where tools set (punch and die) has been designed to form omega-shaped samples.
Abstract: Energy efficiency, a high level of passenger safety, and weight reduction of the vehicles still constitute the main functional elements for the design of modern car body structures. Toward this objective, the usage of advanced sheet-metal forming technologies like hot stamping of quenchable boron manganese steel is developing nowadays. Hot stamping is a combination of hot forming and simultaneously quenching and hardening of the blank. In this article, an experimental procedure developed to estimate the thermal conductance at the part–tool interface during a hot stamping procedure is presented. The tools set (punch and die) has been designed to form omega-shaped samples. This work represents the first stage of the procedure development where the standard experiment is a simple compressive load of sample in the bottom of the omega-shape die, considering the real hot-stamping conditions. Tests are carried out under different contact pressure values for two different blank materials (Usibor 1500P and a mater...

TL;DR: In this paper, a feed mechanism for feeding strips of stock between the die members of a cutting, punching, and stamping machine was proposed, and the primary object of the proposed mechanism was to improve the efficiency of the cutting and punching operations.
Abstract: The present invention relates to improvements in automatic feeding mechanism for cutting, punching and stamping machines, and more particularly, to a feed mechanism for feeding strips of stock between the die members of said cutting, punching and stamping machine. The primary object of the...

TL;DR: In this paper, three advanced hard coatings, CrTiN alloy, TiN/NbN multilayer and a multilayered C-composite, were field-tested and compared for their stamping wear resistance.
Abstract: Three advanced hard coatings, CrTiN alloy, TiN/NbN multilayer and a multilayered C-composite, were field-tested and compared for their stamping wear resistance. All coatings were deposited onto SKH51 steel punches using an unbalanced magnetron sputtering system. Parametric studies of substrate bias, deposition pressure, composition, and structure effects on the coatings’ performance were conducted to determine the optimum deposition conditions. A 25-ton open-frame stamping machine was used for the stamping test on cold rolled carbon steel. Wear characteristics of the coated and uncoated punches were analysed using shearing and stripping force diagrams and optical microscopy. The results showed that: (1) all three coatings significantly improved the wear resistance and stamping performance; and (2) CrTiN coating out-performed the other two, owing to its high hardness, good adhesion and moderate friction coefficient.

TL;DR: In this article, a 3D scanning data was used to compensate tool surfaces and the tools were remanufactured on the basis of the compensated tool surfaces, and the final stamping parts were measured by a special fixture after die tryout.
Abstract: A new method to compensate for the springback of a formed part was introduced in this study. The development of stamping tools for the rear reinforcement plate of a door panel was used for the experiment. A three-dimensional (3D) scanner was utilized to scan the formed part. Compared with the design model, the deviation and springback angle of the formed part were obtained. Furthermore, the inspection results measured by a traditional special fixture were compared with the results of the 3D scanner. Finally, the 3D scanning data were used to compensate tool surfaces, and the tools were remanufactured on the basis of the compensated tool surfaces. The final stamping parts were measured by a special fixture after die tryout. The inspection results demonstrated that 15 of 18 measuring points can satisfy the geometrical tolerances, thus indicating that the qualified rate of this product can reach 83.33 % the first time the springback is compensated by using 3D scanning method. The results prove that 3D scanning data is more accurate and complete than the traditional method, and the springback compensation by this method can effectively reduce die tryout time.
