TL;DR: A JPEG transmorphing algorithm is presented, which converts an image to its processed version while preserving sufficient information about the original image in the application markers of the processed JPEG image file, so that theOriginal image can be later recovered.
Abstract: Picture-related applications are extremely popular because pictures present attractive and vivid information. Nowadays, people record everyday life, communicate with each other, and enjoy entertainment using various interesting imaging applications. In many cases, processed images need to be recovered to their original versions. However, most approaches require storage or transmission of both original and processed images separately, which result in increased bandwidth and storage resources to be used. In contrast, in this paper, we present a JPEG transmorphing algorithm, which converts an image to its processed version while preserving sufficient information about the original image in the processed image. It does this by inserting partial information about the original image in the application markers of the processed JPEG image file, so that the original image can be later recovered. Experiments are conducted and results show that the proposed method offers a number of attractive features and a good performance in many applications.

TL;DR: In this paper, a document type automatic discrimination section, based upon plural types of parameters (quantity of halftone pixels, quantity of photographic-picture pixels, and quantity of high density pixels) obtained from plural type of characteristics (maximum density difference, total density busyness) extracted from the input image data and which parameters are used for discriminating a document types.
Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes a document type automatic discrimination section that, based upon input image data read from a document, automatically discriminates a document type of the document. The document type automatic discrimination section, based upon plural types of parameters (quantity of halftone pixels, quantity of photographic-picture pixels, and quantity of high density pixels) obtained from plural types of characteristics (maximum density difference, total density busyness) extracted from the input image data and which parameters are used for discriminating a document type. A specific inkjet printed image whose output image data would not reach a standard level, if a process for a halftone reproduction region or a process for a continuous tone region were to be carried out on the input image data. This can improve the accuracy of document discrimination and the image quality of reproduced image.

TL;DR: The results indicate that DGANet-ISE outperforms the other 14 methods in the remote sensing image SR, and the cross-database test results demonstrate that the method exhibits satisfactory generalization performance in adapting to new data.
Abstract: Super-resolution (SR) is able to improve the spatial resolution of remote sensing images, which is critical for many practical applications such as fine urban monitoring. In this paper, a new single-image SR method, deep gradient-aware network with image-specific enhancement (DGANet-ISE) was proposed to improve the spatial resolution of remote sensing images. First, DGANet was proposed to model the complex relationship between low- and high-resolution images. A new gradient-aware loss was designed in the training phase to preserve more gradient details in super-resolved remote sensing images. Then, the ISE approach was proposed in the testing phase to further improve the SR performance. By using the specific features of each test image, ISE can further boost the generalization capability and adaptability of our method on inexperienced datasets. Finally, three datasets were used to verify the effectiveness of our method. The results indicate that DGANet-ISE outperforms the other 14 methods in the remote sensing image SR, and the cross-database test results demonstrate that our method exhibits satisfactory generalization performance in adapting to new data.

TL;DR: A novel colony analysis system including an adjustable image acquisition subsystem and a wavelet-watershed-based image segmentation algorithm that can obtain good results for ordinary colony images and for the images including a lot of small (tiny) colonies and dark colonies and overlapping (or touching) colonies.
Abstract: This paper presents a novel colony analysis system including an adjustable image acquisition subsystem and a wavelet-watershed-based image segmentation algorithm An illumination box was constructed-both front lightning and back lightning illuminations can be chosen by users based on the properties of Petri dishes In the illumination box, the lightning is uniform, which makes image processing easy A digital camera at the top of the box is connected to a PC computer; all the camera functions are controlled by the developed computer software in this study As usual, in the image processing part, the hardest task is image segmentation which is carried out by the four different algorithms: 1 recursive image segmentation on gray similarity; 2 canny edge detection-based segmentation; 3 the combination of 1 and 2, and 4 colony delineation on wavelet and watershed The first three algorithms can obtain good results for ordinary colony images, and for the images including a lot of small (tiny) colonies and dark colonies and overlapping (or touching) colonies, the algorithm 4 can obtain better results than the others The algorithms are tested by using a large number of different colony images, and the testing results are satisfactory
