TL;DR: The authors present state-assignment algorithms that heuristically maximize the number of common cubes in the encoded network to maximize theNumber of literals in the resulting combinational logic network after multilevel logic optimization.
Abstract: The problem of state assignment for synchronous finite-state machines (FSM), targeted towards multilevel combinational logic and feedback register implementations, are addressed. The authors present state-assignment algorithms that heuristically maximize the number of common cubes in the encoded network to maximize the number of literals in the resulting combinational logic network after multilevel logic optimization. Results over a wide range of benchmarks which prove the efficacy of the proposed techniques are presented. Literal counts averaging 20%-40% less than other state-assignment programs have been obtained. >

TL;DR: A molecule consisting of three linked photochromes that can be configured as AND, XOR, INH, half-adder,half-subtractor, multiplexer, demultiplexers, encoder, decoder, keypad lock, and logically reversible transfer gate logic devices, all with a common initial state are reported.
Abstract: Photochromes are photoswitchable, bistable chromophores which, like transistors, can implement binary logic operations. When several photochromes are combined in one molecule, interactions between them such as energy and electron transfer allow design of simple Boolean logic gates and more complex logic devices with all-photonic inputs and outputs. Selective isomerization of individual photochromes can be achieved using light of different wavelengths, and logic outputs can employ absorption and emission properties at different wavelengths, thus allowing a single molecular species to perform several different functions, even simultaneously. Here, we report a molecule consisting of three linked photochromes that can be configured as AND, XOR, INH, half-adder, half-subtractor, multiplexer, demultiplexer, encoder, decoder, keypad lock, and logically reversible transfer gate logic devices, all with a common initial state. The system demonstrates the advantages of light-responsive molecules as multifunctional, reconfigurable nanoscale logic devices that represent an approach to true molecular information processing units.

TL;DR: In this article, the state of an apparatus is reported to a remote computer using an embedded device in the apparatus, which detects the state, generates a message that reports the state using a self-describing computer language, and sends the message to the remote computer.
Abstract: The state of an apparatus is reported to a remote computer using an embedded device in the apparatus. The embedded device detects the state, generates a message that reports the state using a self-describing computer language, and sends the message to the remote computer. The remote computer receives the message and extracts the state of the embedded device from the message.

TL;DR: By integrating past and new approaches for molecular logic reconfiguration, this paper was able to load advanced arithmetic calculations onto a single molecular species, and for the first time, a full-subtractor is now possible within individual molecules.
Abstract: Over the past decade, there has been remarkable progress in the development of molecular logic and arithmetic systems, which has brought chemists closer to the realization of a molecular scale calculator (a Moleculator). This paper describes a significant step in this direction. By integrating past and new approaches for molecular logic reconfiguration, we were able to load advanced arithmetic calculations onto a single molecular species. Exchanging chemical inputs, monitoring at several wavelengths simultaneously, as well as using negative logic for the transmittance mode significantly increase the input and output information channels of the processing molecule. Changing the initial state of the processor is an additional approach used for altering the logical output of the device. Finally, introducing degeneracy to the chemical inputs or, alternatively, controlling their interactions to form identical chemical states minimizes the complexity of realizing three-bits addition and subtraction at the molec...

TL;DR: In this paper, a pipeline control system is distributed over the functional units (15, 17, 20, 25) in a processor (10). Decoder logic (12) issues operations, each with an associated tag, to functional units, with up to n operations allowed to be outstanding.
Abstract: A pipeline control system is distributed over the functional units (15, 17, 20, 25) in a processor (10). Decoder logic (12) issues operations, each with an associated tag, to the functional units, with up to n operations allowed to be outstanding. The units execute the operations and report termination information back to the decoder logic, but do not irrevocably change the state of the machine. Based on the termination information, the decoder logic retires normally terminated operations in order. If an operation terminates abnormally, the decoder logic instructs the units to back out of those operations that include and are later than the operation that terminated abnormally.
