Abstract: PURPOSE:To effectively utilize a memory cell by providing a means to prohibit reading of information from an arbitrary pair of memory cell blocks out of the memory cell blocks and to transmit information in the remained pairs of the memory cell blocks to an output terminal. CONSTITUTION:When an output line 72 is turned to an active state by the preserved information of internal program circuits 61-68, a block selecting circuit 71 makes a sense amplifier output line 31 and a data output line 81 not- conducted by the operation of a replacing circuit 41 and a sense amplifier output line 39 and a data output line 89 are turned to a conducting state through a selecting data line. Instead of a memory cell array 1, the data of a memory cell array 9 are outputted to the data output line 89 and 8 bits are read out. Accordingly, in the case of 8 bit constitution caused by the semiconductor memory device of 9 bits, for example, since the memory cell array, which is not used, is exchanged with the memory cell array generating operational trouble, the semiconductor memory device with 8 bit constitution can be obtained. Thus, the memory cell array can be effectively utilized.

Method of programming and executing object-oriented state machine logic in a controller

Abstract: A method is disclosed for programming and executing a state machine control program represented as a diagram in an HVAC controller. The diagram is converted to tabular data which is entered into one or more spreadsheet pages. The tabular data includes the defined output states, the defined input states and defined transition states, whereby a given output state and a given set of inputs will cause transition to a next output state. The tabular data is translated, through execution of a routine in a macro-instruction language, into a plurality of data structures for downloading into a finite state machine object data structure in the controller, where it will be acted upon by an object-oriented execution module, referred to as a class execute method, which is also present in the controller.

Instruction set architecture with secure clear instructions for protecting processing unit architected state information

Abstract: A method and circuit arrangement utilize secure clear instructions defined in an instruction set architecture (ISA) for a processing unit to clear, overwrite or otherwise restrict unauthorized access to the internal architected state of the processing unit in association with context switch operations. The secure clear instructions are executable by a hypervisor, operating system, or other supervisory program code in connection with a context switch operation, and the processing unit includes security logic that is responsive to such instructions to restrict access by an operating system or process associated with an incoming context to architected state information associated with an operating system or process associated with an outgoing context.

Malfunction power switch and feedback led for suspend systems

Abstract: A computer system having four states of power management: a normal operating state, a standby state, a suspend state, and an off state. A control unit controls transitions between the various states. The standby state is characterized by devices, such as a video controller and a hard drive, being placed into a low-power mode transparent to the operating system and the applications executing on the computer system. The suspend state is characterized by executing code being interrupted and the state of the computer system being saved to a file on the hard drive in such a manner that system power may be removed after the state of the computer system is saved to the hard drive. Later, after system power is restored, the state of the computer system is resumed by reading from the hard drive and loading it in such a manner that the operating system and application programs are not adversely affected. The normal operating state and the off state correspond to the typical on and off states of more conventional computer systems. A single switch causes transitions between the various states. A visual feedback device, such as an LED is used to indicate the state of the computer system. While no power management driver is active, the control unit delays state transitions until a suitable power management driver is active.
