••
TL;DR: In this article, the freezing of initially superheated pure water, at small Stefan numbers, contained in a horizontal cylinder, was investigated and three experiments were conducted and were compared to an analytical model based upon the heat balance integral method which considered one-dimensional (radial) conductive heat transfer with either zero or a finite amount of initial superheat contained in the water.

TL;DR: In this article, a boundary integral approach to solidification problems for which the Stefan number, and transition temperature, depend on time is described. The approach is applied to a simple model of alloy solidification and some sample problems are solved.

TL;DR: In this article, a theoretical investigation of the process of free convection melting of a solid slab by an overlying hot liquid pool is made, and the dependence of the melting rate on various controlling parameters, including the Grashof number based on the pool-to-substrate density ratio, the external Stefan number and the internal Stefan number, are obtained by matching the boundary layer solution and the turbulent core solution in the region of overlap.
