Abstract: A method of embedding a steganographic code in an image signal comprises a
method of embedding a steganographic code in an image signal, the method
comprising: generating a variable, multi-bit message; and embedding the
message at locations in the image signal so that the message is redundantly
spread to the locations in the image signal, and instances of the redundantly
spread message are represented differently at different locations in the image
signal according to data independent from the image signal, the embedding
using elements of the message to modify image characteristics at corresponding
locations in the image signal such that the modifications carry the message in a
substantially imperceptible manner.
