Abstract: A uniform refractive index cladding for LiNbO3 single‐crystal fibers has been achieved using a Mg ion indiffusion process. This cladding has a uniform MgO concentration of ∼20 mol %, resulting in a uniform refractive index. The refractive indices of the cladding material have been evaluated to be ne=2.08 and no=2.09 at 0.6328 μm by using the light reflection technique.

TL;DR: In this paper, achromatic fiber optic coupler of the type wherein three singlemode optical fibers are fused together along a portion of the lengths thereof to form a coupling region is described.
Abstract: An achromatic fiber optic coupler of the type wherein three single-mode optical fibers are fused together along a portion of the lengths thereof to form a coupling region. Each fiber includes a core and a cladding, the lowest refractive index of the fiber claddings being n2. The fibers are disposed in a triangular array in the coupling region. A matrix glass body of refractive index n3 surrounds the coupling region, n3 being lower than n2 by such an amount that the value of Δ2-3 is less than 0.125%, wherein Δ2-3 equals (n2 2' -n3 2)/2n2 2.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of quantum interference on the refractive property of a three-level semiconductor quantum well system was investigated, and it was shown that the coupling field, the pumping field, and the relative phase can significantly improve the performance of the system.

TL;DR: In this paper, an optical transmission consisting of a radiation source (30) and a multiple-clad monomode optical transmission (10) with a negative-step index profile is described.
Abstract: An optical transmission is described which comprises a radiation source (30) and a multiple-clad monomode optical transmission fibre (10) with a negative-step index profile. In order to improve the efficiency of coupling the radiation from the source into the transmission fibre a single-clad- monomode transmission fibre (20), whose end portion which faces the source is tapered, is arranged between the source and said fibre.

TL;DR: In this paper, a waveguiding layer of a cladding/core/cladding waveguide structure formed on a substrate is used to detect the refractive index of a material of interest.
Abstract: A refractive index sensor of a total-reflection type comprises a waveguiding layer of a cladding/core/cladding waveguide structure formed on a substrate. The waveguiding layer has an input face connected to either a single optical fiber or a plurality of optical fibers for injecting a light(s) into the layer, a detection face which, obeying Snell's law, totally reflects/transmits the light beam or beams that have arrived there with an expansion angle from the optical fiber or fibers and which constitutes a surface with which a material whose refractive index is to be measured comes in contact, and an output face which outputs the light reflected from the detection face and is connected to an optical detector. The refractive index of the material of interest is detected from a bright-dark boundary of the presence of the corresponding total reflected light from the detection face. With no need of a bulk prism or lamp-type light source, the sensor is small in size and high in sensitivity.
