TL;DR: In this paper, a process for the production of the single-mode optical fiber is disclosed using at least 100 layers, which is the same as the one described in this paper, but with a much higher number of layers.
Abstract: A single-mode optical fiber is doped to achieve a number of desired properties and have a refractive index profile n(r). The doped fiber must at least approximate the formula: ##EQU1## in which no means the refractive index of the matrix material and ri =i·Δr. A process for the production of the single-mode optical fiber is disclosed using at least 100 layers.

TL;DR: In this paper, a semi-empirical, analytic formula for the refractive index of AlxGa1−xAs below the band edge is presented. But this formula is not applicable to the complete range of AlGaAs compositions.
Abstract: We present a semi‐empirical, analytic formula for the refractive index of AlxGa1−xAs below the band edge. The formula describes experimental refractive indices to within ±0.02 accuracy over the wavelength range from 1.5 to 0.75 μm and over the complete range of AlGaAs compositions.

13 Mar 2009TL;DR: In this paper, a GI multimode optical fiber (10) comprising a core (11) having an outer diameter of 45-65 μm, a first cladding (12) so formed as to cover the core, a second cladding(13) composed of a material having a lower refractive index than that of the first claddings, and a third claddling (14) composed by a material with a higher refractive ratio than the secondcladdings.
Abstract: Disclosed is a GI multimode optical fiber (10) comprising a core (11) having an outer diameter of 45-65 μm, a first cladding (12) so formed as to cover the core (11), a second cladding (13) so formed as to cover the first cladding (12) and composed of a material having a lower refractive index than that of the first cladding (12), and a third cladding (14) so formed as to cover the second cladding (13) and composed of a material having a higher refractive index than that of the second cladding (13). The ratio of the outer diameter of the first cladding (12) to the outer diameter of the core (11) is 1.15-1.25.

25 Aug 1995TL;DR: In this article, an effective mode surface area greater than 65 μm2 was achieved by optimization of the geometrical characteristics that characterize the optical fibers, and the mode surface was optimized to be larger than 65 µm2.

TL;DR: A multimode optical fiber includes a central core and an outer cladding (e.g., an outer optical cladding) as discussed by the authors, and the optical fiber's central core is a depressed, central core having an alpha-index profile (i.e., a graded index profile), an outer radius r1, and a maximum refractive index difference Δn1 with respect to the outer claddings.
Abstract: A multimode optical fiber includes a central core and an outer cladding (e.g., an outer optical cladding). Typically, the optical fiber's central core is a depressed, central core having an alpha-index profile (i.e., a graded-index profile), an outer radius r1, and a maximum refractive index difference Δn1 with respect to the outer cladding. The central core's alpha-index profile has a minimum refractive index at the central core's outer radius r1 that corresponds to a refractive index difference Δnend with respect to the outer cladding. Exemplary optical-fiber embodiments may include an inner cladding having an outer radius r2 and a width w2. Exemplary optical-fiber embodiments may include a buried trench having a width w3 and an outer radius r3. Furthermore, exemplary optical-fiber embodiments may include an intermediate cladding having an outer radius r4 and a width w4.
