Abstract: This paper proposes energy efficient of smart street lighting system using low cost microcontroller based Arduino. The main objective is to design energy efficient smart streetlight for energy conservation in existing streetlights of rural area, urban area and exclusively for smart cities. The system consists of LED luminaire, LED driver, PV panel, charge controller light sensor, motion sensor, Arduino. The smart streetlight is controlled on the basis of traffic on road and day/night time [8]. The system is programmed to automatically turn off during the hours of daylight and only operate during the night and heavy raining or bad weather. Many times we see that street lights are remain switched ON even during day time, this is total of wastes of electricity while India is facing lack of electricity. Another problem is the traditional street lamp e.g. Sodium vapour, Metal halide, Incandescent, Fluorescent lamps consumes more power as compared to new advanced Led Lights. Streetlights can be operated free of cost by using automatic controlled, self-powered, efficient solar LED street light.

Abstract: Energy utilization & management schemes at home, business and industry have been successfully implemented in the context of smart grid. But the public street light system has not been taken under serious consideration. The conventional street light system is the potential consumer of electricity, and large amount of electricity wasted. The consumption of energy is consistent and has no concern with the activity and frequency of traffic. With the advancement of technology, numerous solutions like LED, illumination controller/dimmer, Wireless and ICT based designs have been proposed. The main objective of this research is to evaluate these technologies and integrate with smart grid to efficiently consume the energy in the street light system. For this purpose, architecture of an intelligent street light system has been recommended. We also proposed an algorithm to conserve the energy according to the area and traffic. Results are computed through simulated experiment and compared with other solution.

Abstract: The invention discloses an environmental-data-based lighting system and method for fuzzy control of street lamps in different periods. The system comprises three components: single lamp controllers, a concentrated controller and a remote monitoring center. Combined with ZigBee short-range wireless network technology and GPRS remote wireless network technology, the system and method can achieve remote control on and information exchange among the street lights. In view of the fact that the control strategy for the street light control technology is too simple to meet the requirement of on-demand lighting under complicated and changing environmental factors, the invention provides an environmental-data-based lighting system and method for fuzzy control of street lamps in different periods. In the system and the method, the influencing factors regarding the environmental luminance at dawn and the dusk as well as the vehicles and pedestrians on street in the middle of the night are considered respectively, and through the fuzzy control methods adopted in different periods, it is possible to improve the control precision of the system so as to meet the dual requirement of both lighting quality and power conserving. According to the invention, it is not only possible to realize fuzzy control to the lighting of street lamps in different periods based on environmental data, but also possible to detect the power consumption of each street lamp, the tilting of a lamp post, and the road water in real time.

Abstract: This paper introduces a smart street light controlling system to boost energy efficiency of the city. Now a days people are so busy that they rarely find the time to switch OFF the light when it has no use. This results in consumption of lot of energy. This paper proposes the system where street light changed to ON state in the evening before sun sets and they are switched off in the morning after sunrise when there is enough light on the street. This leads to reduce of energy consumption. In this system the movement of vehicle and human is detected on highways to switch on a chunk of street light ahead of it and switch off the trailing lights. This is achieved by processing the image of the object and sending control message to the street light block. Additional feature of the system such as using a suitable sensors of the detection of failed street light and then sending the SMS to control authority using GSM mode to take appropriate action regarding failure.

Abstract: India is one of the developing countries facing difficulties with shortage of power resources, availability of energy due to ever increasing population. Over dependency on fossil fuel can cause problems that affect the next generation to survive. In the current context, it is very important to know how to minimize the energy consumption and how to adapt various energy efficient techniques at least for power limited systems to overcome the energy crisis. Many research works are carried out and people are looking for a clean and better solution for the next generations. The new era Internet of Things has given a new dimension leads to an energy efficient management system. Internet of Things can overcome the existing energy wastage problems to a great extent. IoT is a combination of electronic devices like sensors and intelligent software applications to build an effective data exchange network. In this paper, it is proposed that smart street light design which is one of the basic ideas in reducing wastage of power as in the concept of building a flexible smart city management plan which is essential to the prosperous life of the future generations residing in city environments. To implement this scheme a low-cost Wi-Fi module ESP8266, Light-dependent sensor and ultrasonic sensor are used. Here the LDR sensor is used ON-OFF the street light based on the ambient intensity level. This switching can be done by ESP8266 after reading the LDR value. The need of Ultrasonic sensor comes into picture when a vehicle or a person comes in the range, the light glows with 100%brightness otherwise, the street light glows with less intensity (60%). This avoids unnecessary power waste during the night when there is no sign of vehicle or pedestrian. Thus by using these two sensors, an intelligent automatic light is designed with the help of IoT frame work which is energy efficient.

Abstract: The increasing popularity of automation has resulted in the development of “smart” systems for a variety of different applications. One such application is street lighting which still mostly uses very primitive methods of maintenance. The use of smart street lighting can significantly reduce power consumption and CO2 emissions and consequently also save money. This paper proposes the use of a smart street lighting system which provides an intelligent method of conserving energy and monitoring street light faults with the use of communication over the power line. The developed system communicates over power lines using modified frequency shift keying (FSK) modulation. The system used an LDR (light dependent resistor) based light sensor and an LED (light emitting diode) luminaire to provide the intelligent control.

Abstract: This paper presents an innovation in the maintenance of solar street lights in Senegal. On the one hand, there are currently 71000 solar street lights in Senegal and this number will continually increase thanks to the financing of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (also known by its French acronym, UEMOA). On the other hand, Senegal is situated in the Western part of Africa within the Sahelian region which is under dust influence all year long. According to recent studies the degradation of the power of the crystalline silicon photovoltaic modules due to the dust deposits is up to 68% in Senegal. In this context we propose a connected system for monitoring the performance of the solar street lights in Senegal. This paper presents the implemented solar street light at the fitness trail of the western corniche of Dakar which is selected as a pilot zone. The proposed solar street light is equipped with sensors and a transmission system for collecting the data in real time on a remote server. A Web server is deployed and the collected data can be viewed for monitoring purposes by designed users as the municipality staff which is responsible for the maintenance of the solar street lights. The use of these data, which is not taken into account in this paper, will allow better planning of the cleaning of the street light solar panel.

Abstract: Light Emitting Diode based street lighting system are becoming most common these days. But the limitation with this ordinary street light system is that it lacks of intelligent performance. It is necessary to automate the system, so that we conserve energy as well as to maximize the efficiency of the system. This paper presents a remote streetlight monitoring and controlling system based on LED and wireless sensor network. The system can be made set to run in automatic mode, which controls the streetlight. The control can make a reasonable adjustment according to the seasonal variation. This system also can run in controlled mode. This mode can take the initiative to control streetlights through PC monitor terminal. The street lamp system includes a time cut-out , and an automatic control pattern for even more electricity conserving, namely when vehicles pass by, the LED will turn on automatically, later it will turn off. Here automation of street light is done by light-dependent resistor. The system is developed with various sensors namely IR sensor for vehicles, PIR sensor for human movement detection and LDR sensor for sunlight detection. As the sensors detect the conditions, using wireless technology microcontrollers made variations in LED. As the system is made connected to Internet of Things. It helps to make automatic street light to visualize the real time updates of street light and notifying the changes occur. Also help to check the status of street light from anywhere to operate using IoT in case of any failure. As it helps to verify the energy consumption of the street light

Abstract: Cities are among the world´s largest consumersof electric energy, accountable for two-thirdsof total electricity consumption and for over 70 percent of global greenhouse gases emissions. Publicstreet lighting systems contribute significantly toa city´s energy consumption. In Brazil, the cost of energy for public lighting already represents thesecond most expensive item of most municipalities’ budgets, surpassed only by payroll expenditures.Furthermore, new regulations require all themunicipalities to own the city’s public lightingassets, making public lighting one of the few sectors in which local authorities have direct control over energy-consuming assets (contrastedwith other high energy-consuming sectors such as transport). As a result, the local authorities willhave every incentive to invest in and implementlighting projects by themselves.In Brazil, the current public street lighting inventory primarily consists of mercury and HPS lamps, which over time will tend to be replaced by more efficient technologies such as Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs). This new technology is already in operation in some major cities in other countries. The availability and increasing spread of LED technology offers a unique opportunity for Brazilian cities to reduce their energy consumption. This is especially important and beneficial to cities, considering the sharp increase in energy prices in recent years.In spite of the substantial benefits associated with the conversion of the installed public lighting network in Brazilian cities, major economic financial and institutional obstacles still need to be overcome.In order to reap the benefits of conversion to LED,it is necessary to design and implement business models that can enable the necessary investments.These business models must take into account the diversity of Brazil’s municipalities. Furthermore,consideration must be given to designing financial solutions that can raise private sector capital while mitigating municipal credit and project performance risks.

Abstract: Modern street lighting systems are demonstrating capability of saving energy through light dimming in the case of no vehicle motion. Continuous monitoring of street lamps is essential to ensure the reliability of street lighting systems. This study presents a new electronic design and implantation of a wireless diagnostic system which is capable of continuously measuring the lamp current and detecting faulty lamps. The system sends a warning SMS message to the authorized person reporting the status of the lamps as either working properly or faulty. The presented diagnostic system includes Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) with Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card connected to the Arduino unit to allow SMS messaging. The implemented system characterizes the capability of scaling and controllable time response.

Abstract: The proposed system serves as an Intelligent Personal Assistant for the department responsible for the maintenance of City Street light. It aims at developing a street lighting control prototype which ensures that the right amount of light is provided where and when needed and developing a web based application which can connect to the devices on the street lights remotely and help manage them. This application allows us to read data stored on the cloud as well as allows us to control the street lights manually, thus it lets us diagnose and fix remote device on the street light without ever sending a technician to the site. Here we have a modular approach design, which makes the system scalable and expandable. This system uses ZigBee wireless mesh network. This saves energy and cuts down energy costs up to 25–35%.

Through adoption of the urban street light state monitoring method and device, the state of the urban street light is monitored in real time, urban street lights working abnormally can be rapidly and accurately found. In the prior art, manual patrol and inspection of street lights takes a long time and fail to find broken street lights timely, consequently, street lights of some street sections are out of work for a long time. The urban street light state monitoring method and device solve the problem in the prior art.

Abstract: A street light integrating illumination, vehicle charging, and wireless communication functions and a method thereof, the method comprising: installing a road lamp, a charging device, and a wireless communication device on a light post of a street light facility (S101); connecting, by means of the street light facility, to an external power source, and supplying power to the road lamp, charging device, and wireless communication device installed on the light post (S102); and ensuring that the wireless communication device and the road lamp are supplied with power, and simultaneously controlling the charging device to perform a charging action for a corresponding electric vehicle (S103). The invention installs a charging device, a wireless communication device, and other devices on a light post of a street light facility to effectively address difficulties in establishing wireless communication base station coverage and in establishing electric vehicle charging post. The invention thereby improves both land utilization and reasonable space use, and realizes a benefit of multi-functional light posts. The invention is able to accelerate building of a smart, wireless, and green city, reduce construction costs and maintenance expenses, and improve integrated utilization of resources.

For that we have constructed the Smart Street Light Management System. In proposed system we use sensors like light,motion,humidity for switch on/off the lamps. Everyone is login through the android application.All the data is stored in the database. And there is login for authorized person who can access the and also he/she can on/off the street light through android application. Socially proposed system is really very helpful due data from the database from anywhere to its features to save the energy.

Abstract: Street lighting is an indispensable part of a city’s infrastructure, the main function of which is to illuminate the city’s streets during the dark hours of the day. It is important for the public and city governance to guarantee switching ON/OFF the street lights. The main consideration for computing this system is to achieve optimum utilization and reduce wastage of power. The objective of this project is to provide a reliable system for controlling a large number of street lights from a central location through FM broadcast with highest reliability. The system developed is aimed at introducing more systematic and rational thinking in a way which is both technically feasible and economical. The project involves two stages namely Communication technology and Power switching arrangement. This project includes transmission of coded DTMF signals to the FM transmitter through wireless technology by using echo coupler for controlling street lights. LASER sensors are implanted at a distance away from the street light systems which detects the vehicle and street lights then glows. Until then, street light s will be in dim /OFF state. Abstract: An imperative piece of equipment that is vital to a community is a Street Light. It will provide illumination and safety for the people of the community. However, most of the street lights are powered by the local electric company and are somehow not possible for remote locations. The Solar powered street light is an agreeable solution for the problem. The primary concern of the project is to design and construct a solar- powered street lamp that will be used in Sapang Patay, San Isidro II, Paombong, Bulacan, a remote location of mostly fishponds. The project aims to illuminate the streets of Sapang Patay through the installation of solar powered street light and provide its residents a sense of being safe throughout the night. An experiment and constant monitoring was conducted to check if the solar panel is charging. The result of the project has a positive response from the community of Sapang Patay. They now enjoy the street light and can now freely walk at night without any worries. The solar powered street lamp is a self- sustaining device. The device provides a reliable and enhanced alternative to a current street lighting system.
