TL;DR: In this paper, a material removing tool includes an elongated shank having a rear end portion arranged to be driven by the motor of a boring or milling machine and a front end portion provided with a coaxial stub which is received in a socket between two legs of an adapter which carries the cutting implement.
Abstract: A material removing tool includes an elongated shank having a rear end portion arranged to be driven by the motor of a boring or milling machine and a front end portion provided with a coaxial stub which is received in a socket between two legs of an adapter which carries the cutting implement. At least one of the legs has a radial hole which is in near register with a tapped bore of the stub. The shank portion of a screw, whose head bears against a conical surface surrounding a portion of the hole in the one leg, meshes with the threads in the tapped bore of the stub to urge the rear edge faces of the legs against complementary surfaces provided on two shoulders forming part of the front end portion of the shank. This enhances the resistance to bending stresses and prevents wobbling or vibration of the adapter relative to the shank. The external surfaces of the adapter and shank are formed with longitudinally extending grooves for evacuation of shavings or chips from the locus of removal of material from a workpiece. The diameter of the hole exceeds the diameter of the tapped bore, and the axis of the tapped bore is nearer to the shoulders of the shank than the axis of the hole. The head of the screw has a conical peripheral surface whose inclination is the same as that of the conical surface bounding the above-mentioned portion of the hole in the one leg. A second screw can be provided to secure the other leg of the adapter to the stub. The socket of the adapter and the stub can be stepped to further enhance the resistance to bending stresses.

TL;DR: It is shown that optimum networks have nonzero reflection coefficient minima, as predicted by classical broad-band matching theory.
Abstract: Given a load network consisting of a conductance in parallel with a short-circuited stub, the admittance values of optimum one and two section commensurate transmission line matching networks are derived. These values are expressed in closed form as functions of the bandwidth and ripple level. It is shown that optimum networks have nonzero reflection coefficient minima, as predicted by classical broad-band matching theory.

TL;DR: In this paper, a pole is raised vertically until its lowermost end portion is clear of the ground so that a lower end portion of the pole can be sized, as necessary, for reception by a mechanism joining the pole and stub.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for lengthening or shortening a pole supporting lines, such as electric power and telephone lines. The method includes the providing of a stub adapted to be joined in abutting end-to-end relationship with the lower end of the pole to form a lower extension and support for the pole. The pole is raised vertically until its lowermost end portion is clear of the ground so that a lower end portion of the pole can be sized, as necessary, for reception by a mechanism joining the pole and stub. If necessary, the length of the pole is also shortened to provide a desired combined length. After the lower end has been sized, the pole and stub are joined to each other so that they constitute, in effect, a substantially rigid continuation of each other. The pole and stub are then vertically lowered into the ground to a required depth and the ground is consolidated around the base of the stub. The apparatus includes appropriate structure for accomplishing the preceding method.

TL;DR: In this article, the antennas are constructed of thin, metallic stub regions laminated to an insulative support backing as a part of a wing of a missile, and the antenna stubs are generally rectangular metallic sheets arranged in order of increasing length on the support backing.
Abstract: A direction finding antenna for use in missiles and the like may include arrays of log periodic monopole antennas. The antennas may be constructed of thin, metallic stub regions laminated to an insulative support backing as a part of a wing of a missile. The antennas are triangular in shape in order to provide improved performance and to conform to the shape of wings on the missile. The antennas perform an aerodynamic function as parts of the wings as well as performing an electromagnetic function in the direction finding system. The antennas are provided with parallel feed lines which extend along the base of the triangular antenna, connecting with antenna stubs on both sides of the support backing, and connecting together at the forward end of the antenna. The antenna stubs are generally rectangular metallic sheets arranged in order of increasing length on the support backing. Electrically longer antenna stubs may be provided with zig-zag convolutions for improved performance at lower radio frequencies.

Abstract: A planar two-stub coplanar waveguide-slotline transition is analysed using equivalent circuit approach and is designed by optimizing the slotline and the stub lengths. The end reactances for the two stubs are evaluated and cancelled separately under maximum power transfer conditions. Experimental VSWRs less than 1.12 in the band 3.2 - 4.4 GHz are measured associated with an insertion loss of 0.6 dB.

TL;DR: In this paper, the adjustment of impedance matching is simplified by forming the land for impedance matching as stub and providing plural number of stubs with an interval interposing a strip line.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To simplify the adjustment for impedance matching, by forming the land for impedance matching as stub and providing plural number of stubs with an interval interposing a strip line. CONSTITUTION:Matching adjustment lands 3 are arranged in a column to form stubs 10a, 10b, 20a, 20b, -60a, 60b, which are arranged by interposing strip lines 2a, 2b. The stubs as 10a, 10b and 40a, 40b opposing with each other by interposing the strip lines 2a, 2b form a couple respectively. In adjusting the matching with the stubs, the lands 3 forming the stubs and the lines 2a, 2b are connected via metallic conductors. As the number of couples of the stubs provided at input and output sides respectively, at least two couples are required as the stub nearest to an FET 5 and the stub located apart from the stub above by 1/4-1/2 wavelength of the microwave, and the number to be increased from it is selectable freely within the range of matching.

Abstract: A single-conductor transmission line inserted into the ground is used to measure the frequency-dependent dielectric constant and conductivity of soils and other soft earth media up to at least 1 GHz, as a function of depth. Wide band pulses are launched up the line from a transmitting stub at the tip, and a computer is used to Fourier transform the pulses received at the surface and compute the frequencydependent electrical parameters. If computer use is inconvenient, singlevalue measurements can be made directly from the received pulses.

The sealing component delimits on the aforementioned surface of the sealing element first and second pressure fields which are in communication with the respective ports of the gear machine, and third pressure fields which are situated between the sealing component and the respective stub shafts and which are subjected to the pressure prevailing between the other axial surface of the pressing element inwardly of the root circle of the gear teeth and outwardly of the respective stub shafts. Two of the pressing elements and two of the sealing components may be provided, each at one axial side of the gears.

TL;DR: In this paper, two switching diodes are connected so that their polarity is reversed to each other and the diode D1 is earthed by insulating its ground side at DC by a capacitor C3.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To save power consumption by connecting two switching diodes so that the polarity at a supplying side for switching diode driving current and the polarity at a receiving side for driving current is reversed to each other and the diodes can be driven in series at the connection of the diodes. CONSTITUTION:Switching diodes D1, D2 are connected so that their polarity is reversed to each other and the diode D1 is earthed by insulating its ground side at DC by a capacitor C3. If a connection point between the diode D1 and the capacitor C3 is regarded as a driving current supplying point, the driving current supplying point of the diode D1 is in low impedance and driving current to connect between the diodes D1, D2 is also made to flow from a DC power supply V3 into the ground through the diode D1, a stub 22, a main transmission line 21, a stub 23, and the diode D2, so that a high frequency choke can be omitted and the power consumption of these diodes is the same as that of one switching diode. Since the power consumption of said driving circuit is approximately proportional to that of the switching diodes, the power consumption is reduced sharply as compared to a parallel load circuit.
