TL;DR: In this article, a microstrip-fed planar monopole of quarter-elliptical shape accompanied by a ground plane of 60 × 90 mm2 on FR-4 substrate is designed.
Abstract: This letter describes the design of a compact monopole antenna for use in a portable transceiver to access almost all modern wireless services from 850 MHz to 6 GHz. Initially, a microstrip-fed planar monopole of quarter-elliptical shape accompanied by a ground plane of 60 × 90 mm2 on FR-4 substrate is designed. To generate an ultrawide impedance bandwidth, this radiating element is accompanied by a parasitic microstrip stub and a ground plane cut. To reduce its projection area, the planar monopole is folded to occupy a volume of 13 × 60 × 5.6 mm3. This antenna is then fabricated and experimentally tested. Both simulation and experimental results show its operational band from 0.85 to 6 GHz, with reference to the 6-dB return loss (VSWR 3:1). Its radiation patterns are omnidirectional in the lower band and become directional at higher frequencies, with the gain varying between 1 and 7 dBi.

TL;DR: In this article, a novel omnidirectional circularly polarized (CP) antenna with complementary V-shaped slits is presented, which achieves a compact dimension of 0.52λ0 × 0.026λ0 (λ0 is the wavelength in free space).
Abstract: A novel omnidirectional circularly polarized (CP) antenna loaded with complementary V-shaped slits is presented. It is etched on a single-layer substrate with a patch and ground plane on two sides. By arranging the complementary V-shaped slits in the patch and ground plane, horizontally polarized electric field is generated, such that the | E ϕ| = | E θ| and δ θ- δ ϕ = 90° can be realized. Meanwhile, the performance of CP wave is further improved by etching the orthogonal arc slots at the middle of the patch and ground plane. Avoiding additional stub used to generate the horizontally polarized wave, the presented antenna achieves a compact dimension of 0.52λ0 × 0.52λ0 × 0.026λ0 (λ0 is the wavelength in free space). The realized antenna operates at 5.8 GHz with a bandwidth of 3.5% (5.65–5.85 GHz). Also, it has a peak gain of 1.26 dBic at 5.75 GHz. A good agreement is obtained between the simulated and measured results.

TL;DR: In this paper, a pole reinforcement apparatus for reinforcing a wooden utility pole which includes a stub adapted to be driven into the ground along side the pole is described, the stub having a body portion of a substantially U-shaped cross section having side legs from which lateral flanges extend for tangential engagement with the pole.
Abstract: Pole reinforcement apparatus for reinforcing a wooden utility pole which includes a stub adapted to be driven into the ground along side the pole the stub having a body portion of substantially U-shaped cross section having side legs from which lateral flanges extend for tangential engagement with the pole. A flexible tension member extended around the pole is connected to flanges extending laterally from legs of a U-shaped cap which fits over the stub body for binding the stub to the pole.
