TL;DR: In this paper, an end fire antennae that operates over broad frequency bands with a boosted gain at a preferred frequency, that can be incorporated into arrays, and that have low RF cross-sections are constructed from a transmission line, usually a piece of coaxial cable that if it is not self supporting, is mounted on or in a lightweight structural material with an outer end with a sheath or stripline the shape of half of a notch.
Abstract: Resonant, end fire antennae that operate over broad frequency bands with a boosted gain at a preferred frequency, that can be incorporated into arrays, and that have low RF cross-sections are constructed from a transmission line, usually a piece of coaxial cable that if it is not self supporting, is mounted on or in a lightweight structural material with an outer end with a sheath or stripline the shape of half of a notch. The other half of the notch is formed from a conductor electrically connected to the center conductor of the coaxial cable. The cable and conductor are variably spaced to transition the characteristic impedance of the cable to that of free space. The transmission line and the conductor each have a quarter wavelength tuning stub connected thereto to boost the gain of the antenna at a predetermined frequency. The conductor and the sheath are terminated either with ground connections or by inductive loads.

TL;DR: In this paper, a fork-shaped monopole antenna with a modified ground plane is presented, where an asymmetric T-shaped patch loaded by a horizontal stub is added to the ground plane.
Abstract: A small, extremely wideband fork-shaped monopole antenna with a new modified design of ground plane is presented. By connecting an asymmetric T-shaped patch loaded by a horizontal stub to the ground plane, not only the lower edge of the bandwidth (BW) is considerably decreased from 3.6 to 1.95 GHz, but also the impedance matching at the higher frequencies is much improved, and therefore total BW is extremely enhanced from 82% to 164%. By using these features, a miniaturized sample of the antenna with an area reduction of about 57% and BW increment of about 34% is also designed and presented. The measured results of the first and second antennas show the acceptable radiation characteristics with the BWs from 1.95 to 19.9 GHz (164.3%) and from 3.5 to 13.1 GHz (116%) for VSWR <; 2, respectively.

TL;DR: A fitting for an end of a length of corrugated tubing forms a gas-tight metal-to-metal seal by rolling and folding an endmost corrugation into a axially extending annular groove in the fitting body.
Abstract: A fitting for an end of a length of corrugated tubing forms a gas-tight metal-to-metal seal by rolling and folding an endmost corrugation into a axially extending annular groove in the fitting body. A ridged retainer grips the tubing corrugations above the endmost corrugation and is axially advanced into the fitting body by a nut. The cut end at the endmost corrugation of the tubing encounters the axially facing end of a tubular stub inside the fitting body and folds over itself and into the annular groove between the stub and the inside surface of the fitting body. A seal member is thus formed with a pair of substantially parallel sealing surfaces, and resides between the retainer and the outside surface of the tubular stub. The seal member forms a metal/metal seal with the tubular stub.

TL;DR: This paper describes impact avalanche transit time (IMPATT) diodes fabricated in 0.18-/spl mu/m standard complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor technology to enable operation at 77 GHz to find application in automotive and communication systems.
Abstract: This paper describes impact avalanche transit time (IMPATT) diodes fabricated in 0.18-/spl mu/m standard complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor technology to enable operation at 77 GHz. The lateral IMPATT diodes are integrated with a microstrip patch antenna, modified to provide impedance matching and widen the tuning range. The antenna dimensions and the impedance matching are designed using the high-frequency electromagnetic field solver Sonnet. The output spectrum has no visible spurious components. The transmitted power is -62 dBm at 76 GHz. The measured frequency is within 1.3% of the simulated value. It is hoped that this device will find application in automotive and communication systems.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a communication system to perform high-frequency radio communication mutually between a plurality of communication terminals without being influenced by an ambient environment and in a stable state.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system to perform high-frequency radio communication mutually between a plurality of communication terminals without being influenced by an ambient environment and in a stable state.SOLUTION: When radio communication is performed by transmitting and receiving a radio signal mutually between at least two communication terminals, each communication terminal comprises: an antenna 2 which is built in the communication terminal to perform radio communication; a radio transmission and reception section 3 for performing transmission and reception of a radio signal via the antenna; a power supply section 4 for supplying operational power to the radio transmission and reception section; and a stub line formation section 5 for forming a stub line connected in parallel with line of a transmission line L1 connecting between the antenna and the radio transmission and reception section. The stub line formation section includes: a first switching element group 1S which is switched to make the line length of the stub line variable; and a second switching element group 2S which is switched to make the stub line made variable by the first switching element group open or short-circuited.
