TL;DR: In this paper, the fiber optic union comprises a split sleeve with an interior channel and a fiber stub centrally located within the interior channel, which prevents the ferrules of two different cables from making direct physical exchange but allows them to make efficient optical exchange.
Abstract: Devices to enhance the reliability of optical networks and to reduce the cost of repair are disclosed in this invention. In particular, fiber optic union adapters with built-in protective isolation prevent a damaged, connectorized fiber optic cable from degrading other fiber optic terminations within the network should they be physically connected. The fiber optic union comprises a split sleeve with an interior channel and a fiber stub centrally located within the interior channel. The fiber stub prevents the ferrules of two different cables from making direct physical exchange but allows them to make efficient optical exchange. Opposite ends of the fiber stub are optically polished to enable physical contact to the ferrules of fiber optic cables with low insertion loss and low backreflection. Devices to achieve low loss isolated interconnection between cables containing dissimilar fiber types by use of a fiber taper are further disclosed.

TL;DR: In this article, the planar circuit analysis for series-connected radial stubs is extended to the shunt configuration and theoretical and experimental results are presented to verify the equivalent model.
Abstract: Radial-line stabs provide an interesting alternative to low-impedance conventional straight stubs. They are useful as filter elements in both series and shunt configurations. In this short paper, the planar circuit analysis previously performed for a series-connected radial stub is extended to the shunt configuration. Theoretical and experimental results are presented to verify the equivalent model for the shunt-connected radial stub.

TL;DR: In this paper, a continuous transverse stub (CTS) array antenna is presented for beam-scanning applications, where Rotatable Rided Waveguide Slot Array (RWSA) is used as a line source to feed a CTS array for the first time.
Abstract: A continuous transverse stub (CTS) array antenna is presented for beam-scanning applications. Rotatable ridged waveguide slot array (RWSA) is used as a line source to feed a CTS array for the first time. The proposed RWSA has easy design, compact structure, light weight, and easy sidelobe control. The CTS array and RWSA can be designed and optimized separately. A good beam-scanning capability of ±30° is achieved by rotating the RWSA at almost the same angles, thus obtaining a fine beam-scanning resolution. The measured aperture efficiency exceeds 60% in the entire beam-scanning range. Therefore, the proposed antenna can be a good alternative for radar systems and satellite communication terminals, which require low cost and high gain.

TL;DR: In this article, a surge protector includes a coaxial through-section having a through inner conductor and a through outer conductor, and a stub having a stub inner conductor, a stub outer conductor.
Abstract: A surge protector includes a coaxial through-section having a through inner conductor and a through outer conductor, a stub having a stub inner conductor, a stub outer conductor, a first end and a second end. The stub is coupled to the coaxial through-section, wherein the stub inner conductor is conductively coupled to the through inner conductor at the first end of the stub, and the stub outer conductor is conductively coupled to the through outer conductor at the first end of the stub. The stub inner conductor is substantially hollow and having at least one helical aperture disposed therein. A charge elimination device conductively coupled between the stub inner conductor and a grounding device, and a radio frequency short circuit bypass is electrically coupled between the stub inner conductor and the stub outer conductor. A DC injection port is also conductively coupled between the stub inner conductor and the stub outer conductor.
