TL;DR: In this article, an intrinsic classification of the large and small orbits for N = 2, 4D extremal black holes on symmetric spaces is provided. But the classification does not depend on the duality frame used for the charges or on the special coordinates.

TL;DR: In this article, a detailed study of D-brane superpotentials depending on several open and closed-string deformations is presented, and explicit expressions for the N=1 superpotential for families of type II/F-theory compactifications are obtained for a list of multi-parameter examples.
Abstract: We present a detailed study of D-brane superpotentials depending on several open and closed-string deformations. The relative cohomology group associated with the brane defines a generalized hypergeometric GKZ system which determines the off-shell superpotential and its analytic properties under deformation. Explicit expressions for the N=1 superpotential for families of type II/F-theory compactifications are obtained for a list of multi-parameter examples. Using the Hodge theoretic approach to open-string mirror symmetry, we obtain new predictions for integral disc invariants in the A model instanton expansion. We study the behavior of the brane vacua under extremal transitions between different Calabi-Yau spaces and observe that the web of Calabi-Yau vacua remains connected for a particular class of branes.

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of fluxes on euclidean D-brane instantons purely in terms of the 4d effective action are described. But the effect corresponds to the dressing of the effective nonperturbative 4D effective vertex with 4d flux superpotential interactions, generated when the moduli fields made massive by the flux are integrated out.
Abstract: We provide a description of the effects of fluxes on euclidean D-brane instantons purely in terms of the 4d effective action. The effect corresponds to the dressing of the effective non-perturbative 4d effective vertex with 4d flux superpotential interactions, generated when the moduli fields made massive by the flux are integrated out. The description in terms of effective field theory allows a unified description of non-perturbative effects in all flux compactifications of a given underlying fluxless model, globally in the moduli space of the latter. It also allows us to describe explicitly the effects on D-brane instantons of fluxes with no microscopic description, like non-geometric fluxes. At the more formal level, the description has interesting connections with the bulk-boundary map of open-closed two-dimensional topological string theory, and with the = 1 special geometry.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show how within the Dijkgraaf-Vafa prescription one can derive superpotentials for matter fields from constrained matrix integrals, which are equivalent to classical complex Wishart random matrices.

TL;DR: In this article, a-maximization, a-theorem, unitarity bounds, as well as positivity of other central charges are employed to nonperturbatively rule out this possibility for a broad class of prime candidates of phenomenologically relevant supersymmetric grand unified theories.
Abstract: Phenomenologically appealing supersymmetric grand unified theories have large gauge representations and thus are not asymptotically free. Their ultraviolet validity is limited by the appearance of a Landau pole well before the Planck scale. One could hope that these theories save themselves, before the inclusion of gravity, by generating an interacting ultraviolet fixed point, similar to the one recently discovered in non-supersymmetric gauge-Yukawa theories. Employing a-maximization, a-theorem, unitarity bounds, as well as positivity of other central charges we nonperturbatively rule out this possibility for a broad class of prime candidates of phenomenologically relevant supersymmetric grand unified theories. We also uncover candidates passing these tests, which have either exotic matter or contain one field decoupled from the superpotential. The latter class of theories contains a model with the minimal matter content required by phenomenology.
