TL;DR: In this paper, the authors obtained N=1 SU(N)^k gauge theories with bifundamental matter and a quartic superpotential as the low energy theory on D3-branes at singular points.
Abstract: We obtain N=1 SU(N)^k gauge theories with bifundamental matter and a quartic superpotential as the low energy theory on D3-branes at singular points. These theories generalize that on D3-branes at a conifold point, studied recently by Klebanov and Witten. For k=3 the defining equation of the singular point is that of an isolated D_4 singularity. For k>3 we obtain a family of multimodular singularities. The considered SU(N)^k theories flow in the infrared to a non-trivial fixed point. We analyze the AdS/CFT correspondence for our examples.

TL;DR: In this article, the singular points preserving = 1 supersymmetry in the moduli space where mutually local monopoles become massless were examined and the matrix model complex curve for the whole range of the degree of perturbed superpotential.
Abstract: We extend the results of Cachazo, Seiberg and Witten to = 1 supersymmetric gauge theories with gauge groups SO(2N), SO(2N+1) and Sp(2N). By taking the superpotential which is an arbitrary polynomial of adjoint matter ? as a small perturbation of = 2 gauge theories, we examine the singular points preserving = 1 supersymmetry in the moduli space where mutually local monopoles become massless. We derive the matrix model complex curve for the whole range of the degree of perturbed superpotential. Then we determine a generalized Konishi anomaly equation implying the orientifold contribution. We turn to the multiplication map and the confinement index K and describe both Coulomb branch and confining branch. In particular, we construct a multiplication map from SO(2N+1) to SO(2KN?K+2) where K is an even integer as well as a multiplication map from SO(2N) to SO(2KN?2K+2) (K is a positive integer), a map from SO(2N+1) to SO(2KN?K+2) (K is an odd integer) and a map from Sp(2N) to Sp(2KN+2K?2). Finally we analyze some examples which show some duality: the same moduli space has two different semiclassical limits corresponding to distinct gauge groups.

TL;DR: In this paper, a self-consistent Hartree-fock approximation of BCS/NJL type to one-loop off-shell in the gauge theory specified by the gauge kinetic function and the superpotential of adjoint chiral superfields, in particular, that possesses N=2 extended supersymmetry spontaneously broken to N=1 at tree level.
Abstract: Under a few mild assumptions, N=1 supersymmetry in four dimensions is shown to be spontaneously broken in a self-consistent Hartree-Fock approximation of BCS/NJL type to one-loop off-shell, in the gauge theory specified by the gauge kinetic function and the superpotential of adjoint chiral superfields, in particular, that possesses N=2 extended supersymmetry spontaneously broken to N=1 at tree level. The N=2 gauginos receive mixed Majorana-Dirac masses and are split. We derive an explicit form of the gap equation, showing the existence of a nontrivial solution.

TL;DR: In this paper, the moduli dependence of the prefactor of M5-instanton corrections to the superpotential in four-dimensional F-theory compactifications is studied by using zero modes localized at intersections between the instanton and seven-branes.
Abstract: We study the moduli-dependent prefactor of M5-instanton corrections to the superpotential in four-dimensional F-theory compactifications. In light of the M-theory and type IIb limits and also heterotic duality, we propose that the explicit moduli dependence of the prefactor can be computed by a study of zero modes localized at intersections between the instanton and seven-branes. We present an instanton prefactor in an E_6 F-theory GUT which does not admit a heterotic dual and show that it vanishes if and only if a point of E_8 enhancement is present in the instanton worldvolume. More generically, we discuss the relationship between points of E_8 and superpotential zeroes and give sufficient conditions for such a point to cause a zero, even for an SU(5) GUT. We scan a large class of compactifications for instanton physics and demonstrate that many instantons have the same prefactor structure. We discuss the associated implications and complications for moduli stabilization. We present an explicit resolution and construction of G-flux in a generic E_6 GUT and identify a global compactification of the local model spectral cover which happens to facilitate prefactor computations. Via a Leray spectral sequence, we demonstrate the relationship between right-movers of heterotic worldsheet instantons, 3-3 strings of euclidean D3 instantons, and the Fermi zero modes of M5-instantons.
